A very nice rest area on the West side of the river There are many sights to see in the New Gorge National Park like the Sandstone Falls, overlook, the New Gorge Bridge, and others. To actually see either Sandstone falls or these falls, you have to drive down to the river, get on WV 20, go south through Hinton and then drive back up north on WV26 (New River Road). Sandstone falls, just to the north of this site, may be a better site to see but this roadside area is very nice and pleasant. It is easy off/on to the park with a restroom, rest area, plenty of parking, and a pleasant view of the falls/rapids that are in the river right next to the area. There were at least 2 picnic tables and one of them had a grill. There is not much shade over the tables or most of the parking but if you want a nice area for a break or to fish, this would probably be a good place for this. I recommend this area for all my fellow travelers to the area. It is not a massive set of falls but it is a gentle set of stepped falls over rocks over the width of the river. If you are adventurous, I would recommend continuing north and seeing the Sandstone falls.

This was a nice little spot to stop and enjoy the sight of a small waterfall that is located close to the road for easy access. There is a single, unisex restroom on site and when we were there, it was fairly clean with the exception of someone having recently urinated on the floor in front of the toilet. That is likely a fluke occurrence as the restroom was generally well maintained and clean. The pics that I am posting could be better than they are but the river was flowing at an elevated level due to heavy rains. The falls itself was not really distinguished in the high water but still a nice little place to stop. There is a park bench at one end and a couple of access points along the bank to see the river. There is a decent sized, gravel parking area for cars and easy in and out access. If you find my reviews helpful, please like by clicking the thumbs up icon labeled “helpful” at the bottom! Just a few miles down the road from Sandstone Falls is a roadside park called Brooks Falls. The day we were there the water seemed to be more like rapids than a fall along the New River. I’d be curious to see this area again for further exploring. I get the impression we may have missed a few scenic spots at this location. However, pictured above is a sample of what we did see.

Brooks Falls is a small picnic area along Route 26 at the southern end of New River Gorge National River. Brooks Falls is a short, maybe 4 foot waterfall that spans the width of the river. Although it's not high, its very scenic. An overlook at the north end of the parking area provides a view of the falls. There are also some nice rocks to go out on and enjoy the view...
