Wow, I can't say enough about Nebraska Prairie Museum without using a thousand words and a hundred pictures. They let us stay overnight (with a reservation) in our RV. I went in for an hour before they closed (it's free admittance) and barely got through a section. When back for almost three hours the next morning and still did not see everything. Parts will make you laugh and some may make you tear up, especially for veterans in the military section. This is hands down a must stop and see for a day. Did you know there was a WWII POW camp in Nebraska, I didn't. So much to see and so much to learn. Hopefully, with enough donations and continued interest this will be available for generations to come. It deserves your time and...

I was greeted by a very knowledgeable volunteer at the front entry area, Kailyn Drain. She answered my million questions and after one thing or another, she proceeded to give me an amazing personal tour of the museum. I was so impressed by the museum contents, and her knowledge of the contents. This museum is almost like a mini Smithsonian, with unbelievable amounts of items and information. I am from out of town, but can’t wait to come back to this area to visit this phenomenal museum. It requires a number of visits at the least, to be able to enjoy what it has to offer.

Thank you, Kailyn. Good luck with your future digs In career as an...

Wonderful museum - the community has a right to be very proud of this museum. Grew up in Holdrege and moved away many years ago, but always enjoy a visit.

I have a personal collection of over 600 postcards from Holdrege and the area, most dating to the turn of the last century. I once contacted someone at the museum several years ago and offered to give the museum those cards I had inadvertently duplicated in my collection - dups over and above the 600+. While I can take rejection, my offer was rather rudely rejected. Oh well.

There are more cards out there. Just tougher to find. Have cards? ...

I never knew there was once a POW camp in the middle of Nebraska. The museum had recently had a flood so not all the exhibits were in place but the ones that were were very nice. They have several nice and well kept collections. It was an overall general americana type setting. Neat stuff you dont see just anywhere. The inside exhibits were extensive and outside they have an old church, a schoolhouse, a railcar, a guard tower, and some sculptures. Plan at least a few hours if you really want to see it all. Also want to note their exhibit paying tribute to the armed services was excellent.
