The hike to get to the trail itself, starts off at a fairly steep incline. Along the road up to the trail you can find 2-3 public bathrooms, as well as barbecues and tables. Upon reaching the trail, the walk becomes flat, but winds around the mountain range, providing fantastic views. This hike is popular with runners, dog owners and families. At points it gets narrow, so some maneuvering is required to get past others. The canyon itself has an entrance fee, which is paid upon leaving. This hike is very doable in running shoes, although hiking shoes may help those with ankle issues. Lots of loose rock on the rattlesnake gulch trail. Once on the pipeline trail, all is relatively flat, but trail winds around some steep terrain. Read moreThis was a very fun hike to do in the snow. I would like to go back and see the look out with Spring flowers, or summer foliage, or fall colors. The pipeline trail is just about 3 miles in-and-out, but there are longer options that branch off from the same trail. It was not incredibly difficult, but it was enough to get my heart rate up.
