In as much as I don’t care for the increased traffic going past my house during tournaments, I would rather have the park, in lieu of the traffic. I have seen this place grow from a farm run by “Old Man Helder”, who once tried chasing us down when he caught us riding snowmobiles on his land… he chased us with his old John Deere “G” or Moline or whatever it was. After he died (not from the chase), his land must have been donated to the Township as the park started to take shape in many ways. It mostly caters to youth soccer and youth baseball in partnership with the local public schools. Every aspect of this park as great and well kept. If your group is going to spend the better part of a day here, be advised that your food choices are the concession stands (two, I believe). You could probably have a service deliver meals to you or, if you need an excuse to get away, you can go pick it up. The choices are many within a couple miles of the park. Parking is plentiful; there are walking trails through the woods past a “babbling brook” (yes, I did say babbling brook). Need to walk the dog? There are nicely mowed paths in a nearby field where you and Fido can play or run. There are also one or two dog parks within the park property. Maps showing “You AreHere” and color coded, detailed maps. You’ll love it so much that you’ll want to quit your job, sell the house and move closer to this park bc your dog gave you “the nod” on this one. (I can...
Read moreHelder Park is a charming 159-acre paradise, bursting with natural wonders and enough recreational options to exhaust even the most energetic squirrel. In the northwest corner, you'll find a forest so lush it practically whispers "hug me," situated where two major streams come together to form Noordeloos Creek. This tranquil spot is basically a five-star resort for wildlife, featuring VIP guests like birds, deer, wildflowers, and prairie grasses tall enough to give even the bravest explorer a run for their money.
That’s not all, Helder Park also moonlights as a recreational wonderland. It flaunts a picnic shelter perfect for your average sandwich enthusiast, a playground that doubles as a mini Mount Everest for the little ones, and enough sports facilities to make a gymnasium jealous. We're talking softball fields, baseball fields, a basketball court, beach volleyball (minus the beach, but who's complaining?), and lighted tennis and pickleball courts for those who like their sports with a side of nighttime flair. Oh, and let's not forget the soccer fields, ideal for channeling your inner Messi. Helder Park: where nature lovers and thrill-seekers unite for...
Read moreAugust 2024 review Helder Park's pickleball courts have quickly become my go-to spot for a fun and challenging game. The fact that they double as tennis courts is a brilliant use of space, and while the tennis/pickleball lines might seem a tad confusing initially, you honestly stop noticing them after a few games.
The courts themselves are well-maintained, and the surrounding park provides a lovely backdrop for an active day outdoors. I've met some fantastic people on these courts, and the overall atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out.
If you're looking for a great place to play pickleball in a beautiful setting, I highly recommend checking out Helder Park. You won't be disappointed!
