WOW.!!!! What a Great time last weekend Driving a Train! The staff was super friendly and willing to take the time to describe what was going on. For a Non Profit this place rocks on the donations alone. They are doing such a vital thing for all those that have never seen or ridden a steam engine. Good History of the line and why they are there. I gotta go back. Drove the Diesel Locomotive (bucket list item) and loved it. The Steam sells out quickly so you gotta be on it to get on that list. I will do that next time. THESE GUYS ARE GREAT and deserve our patronage. They are in the process of restoring another steam Locomotive that will really be the bomb! Anyway, It was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone that wants a ride into history. There are a few one star reviews. I would say to them that you have to appreciate the history of the train....Its a Historical Thing!! And a damn good one!! Not a carnival ride. Our society is too full of the instant gratification crowd (Sorry Pastor) This is the RAILROAD and the railroads built this great nation. Let us not forget our history. Let...
Read moreWe had a great time on Santa's Train ride and look forward to having more trips on the train throughout the year. There were lots of Christmas decorations, big bon fire, little train store, pictures with Mrs. Clause and of course the man himself handing out candy canes and finding out what all the little girls and boys wanted for Christmas. They had also set up decorations along the tracks and you got a sheet of all Santa's reindeer to check off as you spotted them along tohe route. They had a concessions stand as well that served coffee and hot chocolate as well as snacks and hot dogs. Last, but not least, there was a G-track train yard out front with multiple trains. My son's favorite was of course Thomas, Annie and Clarabel. This was a great trip and one we will repeat yearly. If you are doing the Santa's Reindeer Roundup Express, take a look at the weather and dress accordingly. There are enclosed car options but you see more in the open cars. So bring blankets...
Read moreWe’ve gone to the New Hope Valley Railway for the Santa sleigh ride two years in a row. It’s reasonably priced and really fun for adults and kids. The first year we went Santa actually rode on the train and was available to take pictures with everyone and passed out candy canes. This year because of COVID they had him set up on a sleigh outside the train, and you could sit on chairs in front of him and take pictures.
They have a really cool battery powered train set up near the ticket booth with all kinds of Disney figurines and Thomas the train.
This year they also had free hot chocolate and a food truck!
You can buy tickets for the caboose (enclosed), or general admission tickets for the part of the train that has open windows. They set up cut outs of Santa, deer, penguins, Santa’s workshop, candy canes along the track.
I will say I was very impressed with the restrooms! They have a trailer set up with individual stalls that are really clean...
