One of my favorite fishing destinations. Some very impressive fish in there. I will say big 7 is difficult fishing. Lots of weeds, lots of depth changes, but what makes it difficult is the amount of natural baitfish. Theres so much food its hard to get them to look at artificial. if goimg here for fishing , Many bass, and some big ones too. Probably my personal best from here or close. Pike if you can get em to hit... and hang on because they have shoulders. Strong fat pike. Channel cats. Ive caught a 28" 10 lber and a 33 " 12 lber. lots of good eatin gills lots of crappie, usually best around dusk for crappie.... some perch , havnt found any size and it is stocked with walleye and have had some 6-7 lb monsters come and swipe my bait and miss right next to the boat. lots of eaters. rattle traps are great here on the deep stump field between the boat launch and beach. (Fall) Yo yo ing them seemed to trigger more strikes. Bass assassin's another 5" size. Silver/white, blue silver. Plop it in and wait. dont start your retrieve right away. let it sink and sit for a few. They come from a ways away at times and pick it up. other than that, experiment with different retrieves. Jig and worm.. different fish all day usually. troll early morning with super shallow stickbaits and crawler harness for eyes. once the sun is high, they go deep. Anyway, im giving away my secrets because im dying. Beware in the clarkston waterford area. Pretty sure there is an aggressive fungal outbreak in the area. if you have severe health problems that doctors cant figure out , please look into fungal infections in the body. A few in michigan: aspergillus, cryptococcus, blastomycosis, and look into the candida yeast infection. I believe what I have is blastomycosis. 30 yrs...
Read moreMy wife and 2 year old camped here over the weekend. The camp sight was decent, all grass and neatly trimmed. New fire pits and paved camper parking. There are nearly 60 spots and you are right on top of your camp neighbor. There is 1 bathroom for the entire place, and it joins with the campground beach. This means the floors are covered in pee or lake water at all times, and there are no other options. There are also only 4 or 5 showers to share, and they too are always busy or filthy, which meant no showers for a family of three over two days. The beach is disgusting, essentially a large pond/toilet with a gravel beach. At any random time way too many people are smoking and drinking as they wade through stagnet urine filled water. We couldn't bring in our own wood into the park, so the only option is to buy the VERY small bundles at the camp office for 5 bucks each, that's if you can find someone to sell it to you. 3 trips to the office to buy wood before I caught someone actually working. We were looking for things to do in the are, there is litterally NOTHING in the area to do. no putt putt, no ice cream places NOTHING. We explored the other lakes in the area, the Big 7 lake had the same gravel beach and muck filled stagnant water. The bathrooms were very run down and joins with the 'popstand' looks like it could be a horror movie set. We will not ever come back EVER. Very disappointed in...
Read moreThis is a great hidden little campground. The small size keeps traffic down and the beach uncrowded. You have a choice between shaded sites near the back or open beach front spots. The spaces are quite wide and allow for 2 car parking along the edge without cutting into your camping space. Lots of nice trails to hike and bike. Beach has a swim area plus a canoe/kayak/paddleboard launch area. The rangers have a nice kids program and walk around to your site showing them interesting things, raccoon pelt, snake skins and more.
There are 2 things that stopped this from getting a 5 star review: 1- is that there is one path to the water for anyone not on a lake front site, so people will just cut through your area to get to the beach. I get nervous when we're cooking and little kids are running through near our hot grill or dogs that are leashed by our chairs. 2- there are no trash cans in the camping area at all. You have to go up the hill back to the ranger station to throw trash away. The hill is steep so most will have to drive a car up. I did see a ranger in a cart drive around at night, not sure if he picked up trash if you left it at the curb.
It's a nice place, we will absolutely visit again. Hosts this year are nice and...
