Very cool sand dunes in a spot that you wouldn't necessarily expect them. There are facilities here, and a large parking lot, so RVs will be able to turn around. This spot does a lot, but doesn't do any of it great--probably because it's heavily used. The motorcycle, SxS, utv, and atv crews use this area heavily, so be aware that an afternoon picnic will be be punctuated by the buzzsaw drone of those machines as they jump off of the dunes and do donuts. Sound carries quite far as there's nothing to block or muffle music or conversations, so be cognizant of those around you. A stereo that's cranked may be enjoyable to you, but perhaps not so much for those that are almost a mile away. I love me some Kendrick Lamar, but it's not appropriate for the four year old in the group walking on the next dune over. Because this area is so heavily used, there's also a lot of broken glass and litter scattered around, so although you want to take your shoes off and enjoy the hot sand, be mindful that there may be bottle tops or broken bottles (we picked up numerous). In short, please recognize that this is public land. Please take care of it and respect your neighbors that are...
Read moreSometimes Sand drifts over the road and you cannot drive all the way up the hill, forcing people to park off of the side on the access road to the lookout. When turning around, be sure to keep your vehicle on the pavement as much as possible!!! There is a layer of gravel and small rocks off the side of the road, but it is deceptive. Any car that backs up or drives into the gravel too far off of the road will get stuck in the sandy layers below the gravel. I had the misfortune of this happening to me because the I failed to heed the terrain of the side of the road when attempting to turn around to go down the hill. A few good Samaritans tried to help push my car out while I gave it gas, but we only ended digging my car further into the sand. It ultimately took a tow truck to get my car winched out of...
Read moreI just discovered the sand dunes in Glamis a few weeks ago. They are absolutely fabulous! The pics do not do this place justice. I was passing through on business and did not expect to see sand dunes as far as the eye can see on both sides of the highway. The whole place is so pristine and no litter anywhere. The sand is so fine and soft. On one side of the highway, the land is protected, but the other side is rv parking and camping and atvs, dune buggys, and other outdoor toys. There are bathrooms at the top of the lookout. It is worth the drive, whether you want to play in the sand or take pictures of the dunes. The whole area is breathtaking. If you've never been here, you don't know what...
