I must admit when my husband first suggested we go out to the middle of the desert in December I thought he was crazy! Upon arriving I continued that same train of thought. It wasn't until we jumped into the razor and took off into the hills that I understood what the draw to this desert wonderland was. Climbing up the dunes and racing down them is an experience I can't really explain. But I would recommend it to anyone who has the chance. Unless of course, you have a weak heart, because riding the dunes is not for the faint of heart. My only complaint is that there is no curfew (or at least it isn't endorced). The camper a few spots down from us was up until 3 or 4 am the whole weekend, which make for a rough nights sleep. If you don't have the opportunity to go out and ride the dunes just being there (when its quiet) is very breath taking. The sun rise and sunsets over the dunes do not disappoint. Great for families and anyone who wants to get out and have some fun!

The desert can be rough but if you enjoy a good adventure and don't mind a little sun, it's the perfect escape from the city. The dunes are plentiful and can throw a sandstorm or two so come prepared for that. Make sure you have the following: -Water -Goggles -Sunglasses -Sunscreen -Portable Battery Charger -Cool clothes for the heat of the day -Warm clothes for the nightly chill -And WATER - I know I said water already but don't forget it.

Miles of dunes. Camping in RV or tent. Purchase passes at the Ranger Station. Gecko Road has been re-paved, nice ride in. No glass bottles! No pallets! Pack out what you bring. Recycle everything you can. For what you can't, there are dumpsters near the Ranger Station. Don't leave bags of trash at your campsite! There is no trash fairy. Don't drink and ride, and please don't litter.

Of all the off-road locations in CA, this is by far the best, BUT !!! IT IS THE WORST , WHEN IT COMES TO RANGERS, PURE UNADULTERATED ATTITUDE. Been coming hear for years, ALWAYS, NOTHING BUT ATTITUDE FROM ANY AND ALL RANGERS. Whoever is in charge of this station seriously needs to give and enforce some customer service and demeaner classes. Public Relations at this park has deteriorated so far, half my friends don't come hear anymore. SERIOUS PROBLEM, NEEDING SERIOUS...
