Today at the Farm was their special day for families with special needs children. It was amazing!!! I was so lucky to volunteer. I got so much more out of it than the kids and their families. I was working at the part where they left the park. My job was to make sure each child got little pumpkins and also I got to ask them if they had a good time. I heard story after story on how they loved to have their children at a wonderful farm where they got to be themselves and if their children's disability was apparent they felt so blessed that they no one with "normal" children ( their word) were looking down on them if their autistic child fell on the floor and had a fit, or grabbed something they should not have. Many adults were there with special needs and it was precious how much fun they had and how they loved picking out their little pumpkins.
I loved seeing the parents tired from awesome day. They kept saying thank you so much for allowing us to have a NORMAL day with people with kids like ours. I am a mom and Mimi, my daugher and son had a lot of health problems and I had the sleepless nights, the educational problems etc. It was a continual problem month by month year by year. I knew a little bit of these families journey. However I do not know how it is to have a child in a wheelchair or a child who has continual problems.
These kids were causing emotions to come up in me. They were so darling. My heart for their parents was so compassionate. Many of years I did not sleep very much because my kids were so sick and had many hospitalizations. These parents deal with this far more than I did. They were so thrilled to be there. So thrilled that someone would think of doing this for them.
This Farm is amazing, tractor rides, a corn container people roll around in... one mom showed me her pockets were filled with corn from doing this. They have this cool bounce cushion, these tractors for the kids to see, an amazing tree house that is inside, they have farm animals, tractor rides and so much more.
The manager Christine is amazing. She works like she is an owner. She loves her weddings, her fall fest and their Christmas tree sale. Her husband Dan is always there assisting. They are sweet, kind, loving and truly care. Walter the owner is cleaning up and making sure that everything looks great. They have a heart of Gold.
As people were leaving and thanking me for the wonderful time and how thrilled they were to have a special day that made them feel like a "normal " family (their words) melted my heart. Here I was taking in these wonderful words that were meant for the owner. At the very end of the night a group of 8 deaf children were walking out with 4 adults. The gentleman explained that they each could pick out a little personal pumpkin. They each were thrilled and so sweet. They each signed thank you to me I wanted to fall on the floor crying it was soooo precious. They were all so darling. As I said I am a wedding officiant. I have to stay on the top of my game when I am marrying a couple no matter how emotional it gets. Well I could not do it with these darling families and children. What a great gift it was to me to help out and see the kindness of these managers, owners and staff. An amazing day.
I would be remiss if I did not say if you are looking for wedding site definitely go to Konows Farm in Homer Glen. It is so clean, so beautiful, so well decorated. Christine cares so much. You will have a great day.
Wait until you see all they have. An old fashion game room, this amazing indoor tree house with a bridge, you will be amazed with the wood working they put into this building. They do serve pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, cheese popcorn, caramel corn, all sorts of fall treats. and more so you can make a day of it. Lots of parking, adorable wagons for putting your pumpkins in.
I go to a lot of venues all year long for wedding and I am so impressed by this...
Read moreVery unprofessional, disorganized, bad communication. We had a destination wedding, and then a couple weeks later held a party here, and signed a contract for that. The lady that we worked with left before our event, and the person it was handed off to told us that we should be paying a lot more than we were. I'm sorry, it's not a wedding. That was our first sign that they were upset about not making enough money off of us, even though there was a signed contract. We were supposed to pay per consumption for the bar. It took them two days after the event to come up with a bar tab, that was very high, especially given it being a Sunday night and a lot of kids and a lot of people not drinking. After some rude texting back and forth, we wanted to meet in person to see the tab. The owner decided to call my wife's mom at work, who he barely knows, to complain to her about us wondering why the bill was so high. So we meet in person, discover that the contract they have doesn't even match out contract, with extra things written in, like the bar package, and on our contract we had paying a tab for what we consumed. We didn't get receipts for anything. Our bill just happened to be what their package was. The owner, Walt, decided the best way to handle this was being pissed off and a lot of yelling, even yelling that he can get a little ignorant, when we asked him to please not call my wife's mother at work. (She had nothing to do with the bill or arranging the event) and yelling that they have had a lot of issues with employees, even saying he 'had to fire two fking bches that were stealing from me'. I finally told him I didn't want to hear about the issues he was having with his employees. And he just walked out, and we continued talking to his event manager about it. And you wonder why we might have been question our bill. Some of the rudest and most unprofessional people I've ever dealt with. I'm not really sure how anyone is still booking anything there. Oh, and in the middle of trying to question the bill, they just charged the full amount anyway. They also said it was fine if I shared my experience on social media. So here I am sharing my experience. I wish I could say that we did something to provoke any of this, but I just wanted to see and understand why the bar tab...
Read moreWe went Saturday 10/21-Overall a fantastic experience! We will back next year! I have gone to a lot of pumpkin patches in my lifetime and it gets "hairy" anytime you wait to the last minute and on the weekend; so, I was ready when we went yesterday with an extra dose of calm and patience. We took our 12 month old and I am really impressed at the thought they have put in for fun things for even little kids. Yes it was a madhouse, but that is not Konow's fault...most people were nice. I really feel like they did an excellent job to have things for everyone. Great music, food, drinks, and rides that kids and adults can enjoy. That's the good. The bad...the parking lot. Every place is like this so I knew, but there was a line to get in. This is not a "bad" on them just mentioning for people that seemed frustrated and upset. Unless you get there really early this late in the game there will be a line. The employees in the parking lot are doing their best. The one employee at the end by the exit was not being clear and then when we left at 4pm he was gone. I would say they need that employee at the exit. There was atleast one car that went in the exit because he didn't want to wait and he came very close to hitting two cars. I saw a complaint about people changing their babies...there is 1 baby changing area in the whole place it is in the gift shop to the right of the front gate/entrance. It was impossible with the crowd to get to so maybe in the future they could get a few porta potties with changing tables that way mom's won't be forced to use picnic table/benches. Oh that brings up a thing to add. They have porta potties only...that's typical, but worth noting. There are two port potties before you enter the place...do yourself a favor and use those if you really got to go like I did lol. They should probably have a map or arrows pointing at where things are (maybe they do and I missed them in the craziness). Pumpkins are way cheaper than other pumpkin farms in the area. Oh they have these cute tricycles for the kids to ride, but they need to be in there own sectioned off area...They were on paths with other people and the kids were almost running over people...it was making that area very difficult to...
