Great place to soak in therapeutic mineral water, you may want to use an old swimming suit since the mineral content can stain the cloth a rust color. We have been coming here for 20+ years. To save money, we buy a "ten (10) visit pass" (good for two years from the date of purchase), the pass makes it much more affordable if you plan to visit more than 3 days (6 entries) in two years. They also have a weekday only ten (10) visit pass which only allows entry on Monday thru Thursday for around $50. or about $5. Per Person/Per Day if you Do NOT plan to visit on Friday, Saturday or Sundays. This ticket costs less than buying entry for two people for two days, so if you are visiting midweek, you may want to ask about this pass when you buy your entry passes. The ten (10) visit passes are not shown on their menu board so you need to ask about them. We moved about 12 years ago and now we drive over 315 miles each way just to soak in these hot springs every couple of months and we always enjoy our stay. We try to arrive before they open and like to stay until they close. On weekends they can be full of families with children who can splash a bit much and play a bit loud, but the water and its therapeutic benefits make it worth putting up with these inconveniences. For a peaceful and relaxing soak and to soothe your aching muscles, I doubt you will find better water anywhere in the world and the water is what keeps bringing us back here. Their outside food policy can be a problem, (no outside food can be brought in) and they really don't have any real food for sale other than junk/snack food and since there are no nearby restaurants or places to buy food without driving 15 to 30 min each way, you may want to consider bringing food in a cooler and leaving it in your car. They will allow you to re-enter on the same day as long as you let them know you are leaving with plans to return a bit later. Plan to eat lunch in your car and then return to the water, or spend at least an hour or more just to get food. I also suggest that you bring plenty of drinking water (minimum of 1 gallon per person) you can bring water into the pools as long as it is not in a glass container, they do not have any public drinking fountains, so if you plan to spend several hours in the hot springs you will become dehydrated if you don't drink...
Read moreA very nice spot to sit and relax. Until it fills up. Went with the family on a Saturday afternoon (they don't open until 12:00 pm), and got in fairly quick. I think we were about the 4th family in line. The check-in process goes fairly smoothly. However, a couple of things to note; When checking in, if you have brought a cooler or something similar, they will want to check it. I assume for alcohol since it is not permitted here. If you or your kids want to use the water slides, there is a small additional cost. If you want to use a locker, there is another additional small cost. In addition to this cost, you must leave collateral at the front desk in the form of something valuable, like a cell phone or car keys, but not a credit card or wallet. Speaking of lockers. They will tell you they are "pretty big" and "you should only need one per family". This is not true. They are standard fair gym lockers, capable of holding a small backpack or your shoes and a change of clothes, no more. The locker keys also have no numbers printed on them, so you better make sure to remember which one is yours.
Once you are in the Hot Springs, be prepared as there is very little shade. The water itself, true to its name, is a very pleasant temperature, and they have pools divided from hottest to hot, to cool, as well as a cold pool. The main pools are very shallow. Granted, I am well over six feet tall, the water never came up above my calf. The smaller hot tub looking pools are a bit deeper in the center, the the cooler pool gets to about 5 feet deep, with the "grotto" area under the waterfall being the most shallow at maybe a few inches. Everything was quite relaxing until about 1:30 pm when, what felt like, a hundred people showed up and absolutely filled the place. There were nearly no spots for me and my family to go to be by ourselves. Every pool you went to, you'd be sitting with strangers.
Everything given, we all had a good time and will likely recommend and return to this spot for another...
Read moreUnfortunately, when my family and I went here there was an occurrence of a small child struggling to keep his head above the water. This "certified" lifeguard, got off of her tower, started to walk to the water, and then paused 10 ft away from the water, and then turned to my sister and asked her to go get him instead of her. This "certified" lifeguard was in her hoodie, long pants and reading a book. And then she had the audacity to tell her, "maybe the child is too little to go on the slide." She should of originally stopped the child going on the slide if she thought that. As that is the basics of the definition of her job. After this incident, we made sure the child was okay, and I promptly went up to the desk to speak with someone about this incident but there was only a teenage woman at the desk. I asked if there were certified lifeguards on the premises and she said yes. I told her about the incident and asked why they were in normal clothes and why they didn't just jump in like someone's life actually depended on it. I was told she would address it with the "lifeguard" on duty at the time. These lifeguards are more like a terrible babysitter that shouldn't be left with your children. After that I went looking for an adult or anyone representing this business whom would be older than 16, to speak to and there wasn't a single one to be found.
The standards for protecting someone's life seem to be very low if nonexistent at this establishment. Why even have them there at all.
So swim/float/soak at your own risk. And be prepared to save someone else's life because they can't be bothered. These are teenagers with little to no care about the safety and well-being of others. Make sure when you bring your children keep an eye on them because the lifeguards won't.
If we hadn't been paying attention someone would of lost their child today. Shout out to Brooke (my sister) for actually caring enough to...
