Moanalua Gardens is beautiful - lots of open space (lawn/grass) and some gorgeous trees including a HUGE monkey pod tree. Flowers, not so much. There are several interesting buildings including a Japanese tea house, and King Kamehameha V's summer cottage and a very ornate 1903 Chinese Hall. There is a koi pond, and lots of water fowl that are very comfortable around humans, but they don't bite (at least they didn't bite me). It is very open and though there were a few busloads of tourists while we were there, we wandered around without any problems - never felt crowded. There was also a major woodshow there when we were there that was interesting and had some really nice wood art. There's not a lot to do or see, and admission isn't much either ($1 for military). It really is worth a visit, but the kids will hate you if you're taking them away from the beach or the pool.

Sometimes the best discoveries are in your own backyard. So it is with the 24-acre Moanalua Gardens, home to a 1900 Japanese Tea House (the gift shop), King Kamehameha V’s 1850’s summer cottage and a very ornate 1903 Chinese Hall. Moanalua also has a number of very large monkey pod trees. The largest is the Hitachi tree - which the company uses as its logo. This year, the Chinese Hall housed the 2019 Hawaiian Woodshow exhibiting sculptures, furniture and musical instruments. Helpful Hint: The park is beautiful but there is little to do. I recommend scheduling your tour around a special event like the Woodshow. If you want to go simply to enjoy the park, there is a special admission fee ($1) for Kama’aina and Military. Check the website for other admission fees.

Very bad service. That lady Bridgette That handles parties, shouldn’t be in the “position” she’s in if she’s gets “frustrated” fast and can’t deal with her customers the right way! Make sure y’all get every information and make sure it’s correct. My sons first birthday party is in December and only now October she tells me that I need a event coordinator which she dosen’t know the difference between an “event coordinator” and a “event planner” what “professional” person yells at their customer on the phone because she’s “frustrated” and have been dealing with me for 3 months! Um women isn’t that your “job?” Isn’t it your job to work with “customers” who inquier about your party area?! i was all for having his party there but not after the other day!! She can go on with her rude frustrated self! Now I know why you have bad reviews!! You vented to us about your bad review and made like it was the persons fault! You even vented to us about your general manager!! Such a professional person! You...

It's not just the huge tree and the unique tree benches! Walk to the very back of the garden and across the stream you will find a place with mango trees , Indian Almond trees that grow interesting woody pods and cute flowers, Peacock flowers, Hibiscus, West Indian Jasmine, Puff flowers, Plumeria, and quite a few introduced bird species. In hot summer, you may firstly smell over-ripening sweetness before noticing the fallen ripe mangoes all over the ground.

If you are interested in birds-watching in Honolulu, you may come here, and if lucky(not guarantee to see but most likely you will see some), might see a few birds for good photos: northern cardinals, red-crested cardinals, java sparrows, red whiskered bulbuls, red-vented bulbuls, white rumped shama, rose-ringed parakeets, yellow fronted canary, Japanese white eyes, pacific golden clovers, etc., just listen to the birds, look around...
