A fun visit for anyone in the area with kids or a love for walking trails. Of course, it has the infamous floating dock, but there's also a ton of other walking trails with trashcans, the occasional bench, and beautiful views of the water.

Has multiple playgrounds -- your average playground in front of the parking lot, as well as a cute bug/mushroom-themed one at the beginning of the walking trails right behind the other playground.

There's also usually an ice cream truck that comes rolling down the parking lot.

There are also gazebos and spacious plots of grass that I personally enjoy having little picnics at.

Apparently a good spot for fishing, I tend to see a lot of people out here with fishing poles, if that floats your boat.

As far as bathrooms go, the only ones I've seen are portapotties by the bug/mushroom playground. Definitely pee before you get here.

Plenty of parking available in multiple different lots.

Definitely worth a visit, one of the best parks in the Chester/Enon...

We spent most of the time at the playgrounds. There are quite a few, even a small one if you go down the nature trail a bit.

There is a MASSIVE playground that would be great for older kids. It's so tall and honestly probably the largest playground I've ever seen. I'm excited for when my daughter can play on it more.

The small playground for the littles is still amazing and pretty large for a playground for littles. My 16 month old could even actually attempt the rock wall. I really loved that because she loves rock walls. This one is slanted so it's easier for little kids. It was lovely.

We went on a weekday so it was pretty empty, but this park is obviously well loved. There were some parts that were quite worn, but as we were there some workers came to fix them. So not only does the community love this park, but the county takes good care of it.

I thought it was worth mentioning even though I didn't use it, there's an outdoor gym here. I thought that was...

Unexpected gem in Chesterfield. I've lived here long enough and in several different places to say I'm being honest when I say "Chesterfield sucks". Compared to other places I've lived this place simply sucks HOWEVER I was pleasantly surprised when my husband, my kids and I stumbled upon this park one day when we were picking random "green areas" on Google maps. At first it seemed like any other park with a walking trail but then we saw the floating board walk from a lookout. If Chesterfield would have more places like this and teach their residents how to drive and be friendly, maybe Chesterfield wouldn't be...

Virginia Bucket List Hike for Kids: The Boardwalk at Dodd Park 📍Chester, VA  Officially known as R. Garland Dodd Park at Point of Rocks, Dodd Park covers 176 acres. It’s located on the banks of the Appomattox River & has a bunch of different spaces for families to explore.  The upper area has athletic fields, picnic areas, a large playground area, swings & exercise equipment. The lower area has a play space with great shade!  This *highlight* of this park is the floating boardwalk! It goes over tidal marsh & has spectacular views 😍🍂 It takes ~10-15 minutes to walk from the parking lot directly to the boardwalk. If you’re looking for a longer hike, there are 2.7 miles of trails! things to do with kids in Virginia •••••• 🔖 *TAG* a friend who would love this fall hike! •••••• #thewestendmom #rvaevents #rvanews #exploreva #richmondva #chesterva #virginiaisforlovers #rvahikes #kidswhoexplore #vaoutdoors #rvatok #rvakids #rvamoms #chesterfieldva #midlothianVa #thingstodoinrva #loverva #thingstodoinrva #rvaparenting #shortpumpva #henricova #goochlandva #rvaadventures #hanoverva #familyfriendlyrva #thervalife #explorerva #exploreva #virginiaoutside

There are 2 play structures - one for big kids & one for littles. 💥 It has mostly sun, but there are surrounding trees for some shade. 💥The critter trail down to the lower play space has shade & it’s paved. We loved this - there are “bugs” on the pavement. 💥The lower play area has full shade in summer. 💥Parts of this park are stroller friendly & some are not. The majority of the area around the 2 play spaces are stroller friendly. 💥An all terrain stroller works best on the trails. 💥There are stairs to get to the boardwalk. 💥The floating boardwalk goes through the marsh. It does not have railings, so this is a 1:1 parent/child activity for us. 💥If there’s been a lot of rain portions of the boardwalk can flood. 💥It took us about an hour to walk from the playground to the boardwalk & back.
