Personally, we didn’t enjoy the walk as we hoped. In fact my significant other ran away as soon as she could. One, the place is remotely located and isolated from public few. We didn’t get a good vibe. Airport looks creepy and abandoned and feels like a nuclear waste site from communist days. One road lead there and that is through airport property which gives you an uneasy feeling for quarter of a mile before you hit this short trail. Note: it’s a board walk surrounded by trees in both sides. This place doesn’t have much human traffic, nor public bathrooms (note ladies and kids) use one before coming there, no wild life park ranger or any government help available it’s just you and the nature and whoever is there and that could be anyone or no one. I like wild refuges parks but this one wasn’t one of them due to location and not the birds. Very short walk and limited pockets for bird watching. Best wishes and do bring some kind of deterrent for your...

Delightful experience at this wildlife area. Beautiful boardwalk takes you out on the to the end, through willows, conifers, and Alder. Saw lots of Dunlin and other wading shore birds, sparrows, bald eagle, ducks, and geese, including a small flock of white fronted geese, blue heron, chickadees, and wrens. Also watched a couple of deer grazing in the wooded area. The parking area is at the security gate right at the wildlife area kiosk.

Walk around the gate and down the paved road for less than a quarter mile to the boardwalk entrance. Very enjoyable place to view wildlife, especially birds. Arriving near high tide or right after high tide will provide easier viewing of the wading birds as they are pushed closer to the shoreline and boardwalk. Take binoculars for the best viewing.

No restroom...

A real hidden gem. It took a little while to find at first because the signs stop once you turn from the highway, but if you drive toward the airport and park in the airport parking lot, then walk a little ways, past all of the hangers, and buildings, you will come to a wooden walkway. Once you step onto that boardwalk it's like you're transported to a completely different place. I was absolutely charmed by all of the little details and nooks. Branches form a natural tunnel and the path takes you along on a nice long walk. I would absolutely recommend this place to everyone I know. The only thing I would change is that dogs...

Beautiful bird and natural foliage sanctuary with well-kept wooden paths and lookout points. It is worth the walk from the parking area near the former Lana's Hangar Cafe building, (past the locked vehicle gate) to the trailhead. Limited benches make it harder for those with mobility and endurance concerns to enjoy the full trail. I recommend setting aside up to 2 hr.s for the leisurely walker. Great for families. Yiu may want to bring a stroller for kids under 4 or a walker for kids over 64. Other good items include a hat (or umbrella), sunscreen, water bottle, camera, binoculars and of course, curiosity!

Beautiful refuge. I have been to a few before and this one makes the mark with a long boardwalk close to the mud grounds. Watched many birds although it was late morning. A good binocular is a must if you are interested in spotting and watching birds. There's a truly precious Alder grove along with as number of other plants and trees. Most birds are seasonal. April for the spring migration and August for the Fall migration.
