I am writing this with hopes that people will read it and do better. I want to start by stating that my issues with my recent stay has absolutely NOTHING to do with the staff, Rangers, volunteers as they are all wonderful. Our family's stay was RUINED by INCONSIDERATE, ENTITLED, camp neighbors. My husband grew up spending summers camping in Ocean Shores and we try to give our 2 girls the same experience. We know that when the weekend hits the campground will get busy, it's a given, and normally we have no problem with this. However, this time a group of 100? Had to be close to that, if not more, all pulled up in their teslas and rivians to occupy maybe 6 sites. They had ZERO consideration for the rules of the campground nor the other families around them, which became inherently clear when they went ahead and started a big wood fire the first night they were there. There is a BURN BAN, this is made clear not only when you make your reservation but when you drive down the main road, turn into the campground, on the drive to your site, at all the local shops, and at the entrances to the beach. Which tells me they didn't think the rules applied to them, didn't consider the safety of the people around them, nor the integrity of the beautiful campground they decided to host their family reunion in. Another thing they didn't consider was that upon being forced to put it out they would smoke out the entire loop for hours in the middle of the night, my kids, among others, were up all night coughing. They left their headlights to shine on our site while standing there chit chatting at 11 pm. They were loud and kept everyone up, again with no consideration of the 10 pm "quiet time" rule, which wouldn't have bothered me had it not been 100 people talking. This was all the first night they arrived, in the morning we considered either leaving or sticking it out and hoping it would calm down, we decided to stick out. Throughout the day their children ran into other sites, groups of ADULTS stood in the middle of the street and wouldn't move until you got close enough to hit them and then all gave you dirty looks as you passed by (this happened every time we came and went that day), gathered in the restroom parking lots giving you dirty looks as you passed by to use the restroom or shower. It was extremely uncomfortable, I tried shooting a smile a few times only to be met with scowls. It was clear they felt they owned the place, one of our times driving down the ROAD one of their children even asked "why do these people keep driving in our camp site". Here is what REALLY got to me, they had the opportunity to reserve a group site, they had the opportunity to reserve double sites, they had the opportunity to reserve the CORRECT number of sites for the amount of people they had but instead these people with millions of dollars worth of vehicles parked in this campground were TOO CHEAP to do the RIGHT thing. Instead they decided to take advantage of and try to cheat the WA state park they were so getting so much enjoyment from. If you are reading this SHAME ON YOU! You should be EMBARRASSED, we heard you LYING to the ranger about when parts of your party arrived to avoid a TEN DOLLAR extra vehicle fee for your TESLA! The sites are $27! And you couldn't afford to do the appropriate thing? Not only that but you all just taught your children that RULES don't apply and that they don't need to be considerate of the people around them. Maybe to them camping isn't exactly a vacation, but for us it is, we look forward to summer weeks at this campground all year and save to be able to take a week off of work and show our girls a good time at the beach. We ended up just leaving that day. To anyone reading this, please don't be "that" person, the sites, bathrooms, showers, are not meant to accommodate 20 people per site, and frankly no one wants that as a neighbor. You want to have a big family gathering at the beach? I think that's a beautiful thing but please plan accordingly and don't make your gathering an inconvenience to...
Read moreGreat campsites for car and small RV camping in a large wooded area with several site "loops." Good for long walks. Short walk on a trail to a long sandy beach. You can also drive to the beach and drive ON the beach to find a good spot. Horse rentals available at the beach parking lot. Each campsite has a picnic table and room for 1-2 tents. Public water spigots. Some group sites with large clearings could fit up to 6 cars. Some sites shadier than others but lots of good shade and dry plots with pine needles. Well configured. Some very large trees and tall bushes provide some privacy but sites are next to each other and you can see and hear other campers. Noise was minimal when we were there even with neighbors (Sunday and Monday night). Ample number of restrooms (family style) and private shower rooms with bench and sink and hot water, though we heard a few people complain of hot water running out. Rangers clean and mop the restrooms daily or twice daily. Clean and stocked with TP and soap every time we used them. Narrow paved roads perfect for kids to bike or walk around safely. Some parking for day visitors. We especially enjoyed the wildlife, squirrels, deer and crows mainly, who seemed to be in charge and relatively unafraid. A deer with her two baby fauns visited our campsite twice. Once eating the berries on nearby bushes. Around 530 am we heard the hooves of the baby fauns leaping past our tents chasing each other back and forth through the trees and across our campsite. Adorable! The rangers made rounds several times a day to look for non-paying interlopers, asked us to park on the gravel, reminding folks of the fire ban, etc., in general doing a great job of keeping the area safe and orderly. No rowdy groups or loud music. We will...
Read moreWe normally love staying in Washington State Parks, but Ocean City SP was a huge disappointment. We were there for a week in late June and chose the campground because unfortunately, all the others we prefer, were full. We arrived around 3pm and while the hours on the check-in station said it should be open, it was closed. We thought we were fine since we saw our name on a paper of reserved sites which had been taped to the window. We found our site and it had a short paved drive with the wheel bumper further back on the muddy grass. Most of the sites appeared short and many were also very narrow. It was obvious that many sites had been under water and the paved portions had been scraped free of mud recently. There were areas in our site still so muddy that your foot would sink about 10 inches! Yhe swampyness also made for a lovely (sarcasm) batch of huge mosquitos. The beach was nice and it was super low tide, but it was a good 25 minute walk/hike to get there which made it difficult for our elder members to get there. The bathrooms were relatively clean but the showers took tokens (which at the time cost $1 for 2 tokens - which is pretty expensive and many other state parks take quarters or are free). And the worst part was not only did we have to buy tokens (and the only place to do so is the check-in building), but their freakin water never got warmed up beyond barely luke-warm! Overall, our entire group agreed that we would rather stay at pretty much any other ocean-based state park in Washington, rather than stay here again. The best thing about this park is it's location, which is convenient to Ocean Shores...
