I would like to preface this review by saying this:||I had an incredible wedding, I loved loved loved our big day! It was a beautiful scenery and great time. This post has nothing to do with the actual venue itself as it served its purposed beautifully.||This review is more or so about the owner of Bonne Terre, Emily Rygg.||Starting off the process she was incredible! She was helpful, nice, and resourceful. We had our date set as May 1, 2021 with her, however, soon after we had our hearts set on the venue she tells us her husband gave away our date to another couple and she had no control over the situation because they also paid their deposit on the spot for the date... (we had been waiting to give her our deposit for that date, just needed a time to meet with her as she is very custom to telling people to just put large amounts of money in a mailbox on the property and we were not comfortable with that so we wanted a face to face money exchange). So the nightmare begins!||After her husband gave our original date away we settled for $500 off our total and a different date. Not a big deal so I let it go.||About a month before our wedding, (now May 15) we were getting a few reports from friends who had attended weddings there ... Multiple people had told us about the landscaping of the property not being taken care of at all. We wanted to see for ourselves so during our final consultation with Emily we saw the grass and everything else and it seemed to be in OK condition to us so we only mentioned it to Emily that people were giving bad reviews on the landscape. We did this thinking she would be grateful for an honest review, NOPE! She then turned ugly and rude. And I do mean RUDE.||So we let that situation go and just focus on having a great wedding regardless of her attitude.||Fast forward to the day before the wedding. Again, she kept wanting me to leave our final deposit check in the mailbox on the property and again I did not feel comfortable doing so. She then continued to call and text me asking me for my credit card number so the chef can go buy all the food. At that point I could not enjoy my bridal luncheon nor the rehearsal with everyone because she would not stop texting and calling. So I gave her my credit card number and told her to just get the final deposit that way. However, my bank did not allow this. So I had no option but to leave the check in the mailbox after she sent me a threatening text that her husband is not as nice as her so he doesn't need to know she hasn't gotten paid yet.||Now for the Inn issues.||My out of town guests/ wedding party people had issues getting a hold of Emily for at least 6 weeks before the wedding trying to book a room and pay her. This is a VERY out of date process and not reliable nor efficient. Once the people finally would get ahold of her they had to give her their credit card number and she wrote it down to charge it on the date. On the 14th (Friday) they started to arrive at the Inn and had no way of checking in or knowing anything. And again, surprise, she didn't answer her phone.||One of my guests had finally gotten a hold of Emily to let her know that their air conditioning nor their shower was working and she told them not to tell me (didn't want to stress me out??) but of course my bridesmaid did tell me. Emily never once apologized for any inconvenience nor offered to give her a different room or have it fixed nor reimburse her. Just expected her to sleep in 90 degree Memphis heat in May with no shower.||Emily was EXTREMELY rude to all the guest she interacted with on both Friday and Saturday.||||The day of the wedding! Best day of my life!||However, alcohol is not allowed on the property unless they provide it. So your bridal party nor groomsman party is allowed to drink before the wedding. Luckily one of the ladies that worked at Bonne Terre doing maid services told us that Emily will go through the trash in order to hit us with a fee so we were able to use that information and work around it.||||The pool was open, however, it was green and very nasty looking so the kids were not able to enjoy this feature. ||||Emily notified me she had pneumonia yet wasn’t contagious so insisted on still coming. Which I think is weird but whatever. ||The wedding went on without an issue!! However, this had nothing to do with Emily. This was all due to my mother-in-law as well as my Aunt-in-laws. Like I said I did have an amazing wedding that I hope to remember for the rest of my years. ||Fast forward to a month after the wedding. ||I notice a charge on my card for two nights at the Inn. I contact Emily and let her know my card was charged on accident because I paid for our rooms via the final invoice I paid through Check. ||She told me she would reimburse me the money so I waited the custom 5-7 business days then asked again, then again, and then finally again. She finally came back and told me she was not reimbursing me for the two rooms she accidentally charged me but was keeping the $200 because of issues during the wedding. She accused us of having paper towel spit wads all over the mens restroom (which there wasn’t because I did a final walk through of everything/everywhere at the end of the night). She also accused us of having outside alcohol (which, yes, there was because I tried to have an open beer bar but a cash bar for wine and liquor and she told me absolutely not she didn’t want that so yes my liquor drinkers brought their own). ||However, this was not in my contract, she stated in the email she left out a damage deposit fee as well as the fee for bringing in alcohol out of my contract. So she left these two things out of my contract yet kept my $200 for these two things. She used her husband as a threat again that he is the one not letting her give me the $200 back for the rooms she accidentally charged me for. ||Once I fought back and brought up the fact that it has been a month now since May 15 why are these issues just now being brought up? I also pointed out the fact that this is indeed theft with illegal use of my credit card number she manually typed in and charged. I decided not to dispute the charge with my bank since it had been a month but I did let Emily know this review would be coming so I could warn future brides of her mischief and crooked ways. ||||She did finally reimburse me the $200 she stole from me so I give that to her but otherwise my overall review of Bonne Terre is awesome. My overall review of the...

Read moreMy wife and I have a deep appreciation for a good bed and breakfast, and we have stayed at many over the years all over the country. While this isn't your traditional B&B, it is a quiet and welcoming haven that you really need to experience!||||We were looking for a B&B in the Memphis area recently for an overnight anniversary trip, but several of the others we looked into required a minimum 2-night stay. Bonne Terre had no such requirement, and it looked very comfortable, so it seemed to be exactly what we needed. In some ways it is still a traditional B&B. For example, when you check in you'll probably get to hear stories about the various animals on the property and where they all have come from. That is a pretty common B&B thing from our experiences. It's different, though, in the sense that the rooms are actually in a couple of different buildings, and the cafe/restaurant is in another building yet. The property seems to have houses and outbuildings scattered around, and I don't think we ever quite figured out exactly how it had come to be that way. I'm sure if we had been able to stay longer we would have had opportunity to hear that story too. We had been quite enthusiastic about the prospect of having a nice anniversary dinner in the restaurant, but it had already been booked for a wedding, so it wasn't available. That's ok - we ended up having a wonderful dinner in Memphis instead - see my review of Itta Bena. They did, however, offer to arrange for some chocolate covered strawberries to be sent to your room. That was a gesture that my wife dearly loved and we really appreciated their willingness to do it. We managed to get a room with a fireplace and after our early dinner in Memphis we retired to our room to enjoy the fireplace and strawberries and spend some time together. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay.||||The breakfast in the morning was very good. It consisted of eggs, slabs of bacon, wonderfully tasty hashbrowns, a biscuit, and some fresh fruit along with what seemed to be bottomless orange juice and coffee. We had the chance to eat on the back sun porch of the cafe/restaurant building overlooking the pond in back and enjoyed just relaxing and chatting while watching the geese and other animals.||||The property is not perfect. The buildings are quite old and they have the flaws that you would expect of buildings of significant age. We didn't find them at all distracting, however, and, having been owners previously of a very old home, we know these things are just a fact of life. We did find our room and the restaurant to be very clean and comfortable, and the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. We're already making plans for a return trip. It's great to know that there is such a wonderfully relaxing place to get away from it all so...
