The reviews for this are blown way out of proportion - I was feeling so worried that my car wouldn’t make it, that I wouldn’t be able to do the climb, that I was in danger of slipping 1,000 ft to my death, etc. put all of those fears aside, you’re going to be fine. I still wouldn’t bring little kids or pets though, just to be safe.
As far as the road up, I went today after a heavy rain and had no trouble in a car with low clearance. Max road grading is about 20%. Sure, it’s narrow, but it’s smooth (no jutting rocks aside from a small patch on either side of the low water bridge and a a few pot holes you can easily maneuver around).
If you’re looking for a hike, I don’t recommend this as it is at most 300ft. there and back from the road. Even with the steep drop, it’s not even enough to get you breathing heavily. However it is a really cool place to sit and watch the traffic and the river as well as look out at the mountains.
Also, the google maps directions is about .6 miles up the road too far. Once you turn onto forest road 288 off of Harmon Den, it’ll be almost exactly 4.8 miles, so just watch your odometer. It’ll be on your right with a scraggly tree spray painted predominantly purple. There is a pull off on the left about 100 ft. Up the road.
Anyway, have no...

Not necessarily for those who aren't comfortable to heights, but nonetheless awesome view. Directions: Harmon Den at Exit 7, keep going south and cross the river(impassible during flood conditions). Take the gravel road up the mountain for a few miles and it will be on your right as you will see a tree with spray painted words on it. Head down that trail and your there. Huge disappointment that...
Read moreThe review that states it is a well maintained gravel road and passable by most vehicles is partial correct but a stretch. This is only gravel part of the way and turns in to a rough forest service road. Depending on if you come in on the East side or the West side. the East rout is mostly gravel but the last ~mile is more trail. The West side is mostly all trail and I would only recommend this side with a 4x4 and good tires. The west direction you will have to...
