My favorite place on the world! Love to walk and take runs at this place. I recommend going more in the spring and fall to enjoy the scenery. It’s mostly packed during those times of year on weekends. Also enjoy winter time for walking trails to see amazing sunrises/sunsets and they somewhat close a bit earlier than normal due to the time change.
There’s picnic pavilions at the other side of the park. They do have a duck pond at the back of the park at the North Eldridge street light. You can ride your bike at the Patterson back road of the park, But for warning, do not recommend during rush-hour traffic peak times from 6am-8am and 4pm-7pm To cycle on that back Patterson Road due to drivers using that as a shortcut to get home quicker.
They used to have more animals in the fences of fields and the bird center For viewing. Since hurricane Harvey, it hasn’t been the same on that end, but you can still see a few of animals over there. I miss when in the 80s-2000s had peacocks, ostrich, buffalo, and more to see. Also, they have a veteran dedication and memorial by the duck pond, which is very considerate to have.
Overall, they are updating when they can, and they are more playgrounds at the back of the park with the pavilions nearby. I hope one day they do more modifications to keep...
Read moreI wish I could rate this park half a star. Don’t get me wrong the park is nice, there is a lot of space for plenty of people to have BBQs, family reunions and/or to just enjoy a beautiful day at the park without having to feel overcrowded. What brought my rating down is the fact that they have multiple soccer fields that are not being used nor have they been reserved and yet the public cannot use the fields due to several excuses the groundskeeper makes up to get people off the fields. As we all know, “excuses are tools used by incompetent fools for which to build monuments of nothingness” -anonymous. However, the groundskeeper uses his manager as the scapegoat. I can only assume that the manager is too afraid to speak to us in person to ask us politely to get off the fields or that the groundskeeper doesn’t want to have to anymore work than he has to do so he kicks people off the soccer fields. My friend has reason to believe that the groundskeeper and/or manager of the groundskeeper is racist due to the fact that my friend, who is a black man, and I seem to be the only ones getting kicked off the fields, when all we want to do is work on some soccer and running...
Read moreSuch a wonderful place for picnics and large family gatherings. Lots of trees provide lots of shade. An abundance of BBQ grills are spread throughout. This place is huge! Plenty of parking and plenty of land. I suggest you get there early if you and yours are celebrating a major holiday. For this is a very popular spot. Although there may be families all around, animals included they're a pet friendly facility, there is so much space one barely notices. It's not crowded at all yet the place is full. Every family has their own territory and it is substantial, enough to have an Easter egg hunt or play volleyball or soccer or whatever floats your boat. There are restrooms and I noticed a pavilion that we brought our own canopies I think most people in Houston have them LOL. Hands down,I was really, really impressed! All you really need is your family, friends, pets, coolers, fold up chairs, shade if you want it and some food to cook on the charcoal. Make a day of it! We did. And there are playgrounds but we brought our own fun. I give it two thumbs and look forward to...
