I don’t know where to start with this. I had such a bad experience with the Houston SPCA one from the beginning I had the neighbor call on me House right behind me that also have three dogs and my dogs and his dogs will bark at each other all night, so he Seen me Outside feeding my dogs the following morning and stated that I should move them I refused. He then called the SPCA. And say that I was mistreating my dogs, so the investigator came out in his truck I went out and approached him he immediately Got on a mission Of take all five dogs to see a license vet I sent him the paperwork from my oldest dog, which was three years old got her last shots in 2022 He stated that the paperwork I had for them was too old two of the dogs Were dogs that was left abandoned in the cage onside of the dumpster For about three or four weeks the Puppies look like they were about 2months old couldn’t survive another day without me helping them I offered to surrender the Puppies to him. He stated I do not want to take your dogs. I had three healthy German shepherds. Outside of them and one 3 year old pitbull he stated I’m gonna send you a list of vets You can use thats reasonable I’m texting him back to back by the day for him to send me the vet He responded in messages I did I Responded I never received anything Two more days go by he come back to my house while I was at work gave another violation tape to the door At this point, I was very upset with him I reached out to him and asked him. Why did he just come onto the property and re-violate me after he stated he was going to send me a list of vets My mom was in such a bad car accident. I also had her dog on the property not all of them were mine. Just The 2 I rescue and the other one was for my mom just a friendly reminder the two are rescued from offside the dumpster sit there for weeks Covered in slime, and you was able to see the complete skeleton Put them on a wagon and drag them over to give them care About time he arrived at my property. I already had them running around playing. Gaining the weight Got rid of all the marks they had on them got the eyes to open because they was Stuck close after the second violation he gave me and I called him he said well I’m coming with my constable tomorrow and I’m going to take all your dogs And he did that while I was at work, had three big bags of pedigree dog food On the table, and Plainview took me to court had the vet to lie The same vet from the facility Saying that my mom dog had heartworm When the pup had his shots and was also given the pill and was also a inside dog, my German Shepherd only been outside Maybe six days on a chain and also provided a covered cage The judge knew It was file play by seeing the pictures of how Good the dogs looked The judge stated to me this is a hard decision, Because it don’t look like animal cruelty, but I have to trust the SPca Decision making They mentioned the dog had Heartworms, but none of them had test results to Show are even proven. My oldest one was three years old. I had her since she was six weeks old. It’s a shame I was done this by the Houston SPCA, im the same person that Donate money to facility through Petsmart every time I go and buy a bag of dog food Worst experience ever this particular investigator was no good he just wanted my German Shepherd. He loved them from the beginning. And now they have all our pets, and we are missing them Investigator Ronald comes by your property He going to take your dogs, one way or another no matter how Healthy they are. I called the SPCA before court The lady stated That he was a supervisor and it was nothing they can do she sorry for what he done to me it was exactly March 15 2024 this Took place we would never see our animals again The best bet Right now is start looking for attorney since he’s the supervisor and it’s nothing no one can do Those dogs are healthy I only had baby pictures of the shepherds They are about six months, old and way bigger than what I have on the picture that’s When I first got them my pitbull...
Read moreI wanted to share my experience with Houston SPCA in case someone else is considering adopting from out of state because hopefully it will spare the heartbreak. Long story short I would not adopt from them out of state because they are unable to follow through on their word/promises. I tried to adopt a 3 month old Doberman and I was told I was the 1st person interested in her and they wanted to give me the chance to adopt her first. I explained I was out of state in Colorado but I was willing to fly in and drive the dog home. Houston SPCA said holding dogs wasn't something they normally do but if I paid for her adoption fee up front and showed proof that I was coming to Houston they would hold her until I arrived. I had 24 hours to provide proof. I felt that was 100% reasonable as I know they would not want to keep holding a dog that could potentially be adopted. Within 24hrs, I submitted my flight confirmation showing that I would be coming to pick her up the following Thursday (9 days away). The following morning I called in to confirm that everything was good to go and they informed me the dog went into vet care and they were unable to disclose anything, only that she was no longer up for adoption. I completely understand that things happen... especially with puppies, but with this being a unique situation I expected them to help me out a little and let me know when they thought the dog would recover. She could have worms, or just need another vaccination, or she could have something serious and not be available ever again. I just wanted to be able to get an idea so I could cancel the flight and get my money back or move my flight to a date sooner or later than what I originally planned. The women at the adoption center said she would let two of her supervisors know of the situation so that when the dog became available again I would be notified so that I could move my non-refundable flight to a new date to get the dog. Instead of receiving a call, I discovered the dog back on their adoption website four days later. When I called in to make sure it was still a go for me to come pick her up and to see what had happened to her I was told my pup was already adopted by someone else and that she was no longer available. I WAS CRUSHED. I have emails, countless phone calls/ voicemails, a flight and rental car confirmation of proof showing that I was coming to pick up this puppy that they acknowledged in order to confirm that they could hold her for me until I got there. It just feels like they went behind my back because it was easier to just give the dog away to anyone who walked in that day. They didn't give me a call or shoot me an email when the dog became available again after vet care and I thought it would be common courtesy to offer her to the person 1st in line to adopt her with plane tickets to fly out 5 days from when she was released from the vet. I never got a call or email that she had been adopted or that they were sorry in anyway. I had to call to ask what happened. I was told a supervisor who was aware of the situation would give me a call to discuss what happened and how things would change in the future.... still no call, apparently this is how things will be handled in the future as well. So now I am left with a non refundable flight to Houston this Thursday and a broken heart. My husband and I have been searching for a new pup since our two older dogs passed away a year and a half ago which left a hole in our hearts. When you are told that you are getting a new addition to your family you get excited ! Thanks to Houston SPCA that hole was torn open just a little bit more. Save yourself...
Read moreWe are extremely disappointed in the care we have received from the Houston SPCA Rehoming Center. On Sunday, August 10th, my wife and I found two small puppies near a highway on our way home from Austin. They were malnourished and dehydrated, and seemingly had been dumped. We were not in a position to foster, and after much research, we decided to place them with the Houston SPCA. It was important to us that the puppies would be in a safe and clean environment without the threat of euthanasia due to capacity or length of stay, as promised in the Houston SPCA policy. Upon our first visit, the veterinarian technicians at the Rehoming Center informed us that the puppies had a possible URI (upper respiratory infection) and that they could not accept them. We understood and immediately sought veterinary care at their request. This resulted in fees of over $1,200 for both puppies to receive adequate testing and treatment. As part of their treatment, they were also placed on a five-day deworming plan. Once the medicine had run its course, we contacted the Houston SPCA for a second time. There were no appointments available online, so we spoke with the veterinarian technicians at the Rehoming Center over the phone. The Houston SPCA was advertising a Clear The Shelter event for the following Saturday. It was imperative to us that the puppies had the opportunity to participate in this event to increase their likelihood of adoption. They said that their manager was looking for more puppies for said event, and transferred us over to speak with her. She asked us to come in with them on Thursday, which we did so at her request. They evaluated the puppies and claimed that one was showing signs of possible ringworm. There were no physical indications characteristic of ringworm; no redness or raised circles, only dry skin—a side effect of the deworming medicine. They did not perform a Wood’s lamp examination as is standard in their intake process. Instead, they refused us for a second time. We proceeded to make an appointment to have the puppies tested for ringworm. They both tested negative, and the vets seemed confounded that ringworm was suspected in the first place. They also passed their fecal test, confirming the absence of any and all parasites. With a clean bill of health, we contact the Houston SPCA for a third time. They inform us that they are at full capacity, despite advertising over the weekend that over 100 pets had been adopted from their facility. They say that there is nothing they can do to help us, and advised us to continue checking their website for availability. We have now spent at least $2K at their request, and well over $3K toward the general care of the puppies in the past three weeks. We have gone above and beyond to ensure the health and safety of these puppies before they enter your care. The least we should expect is a phone call when kennel space becomes available. Houston SPCA, is this how you treat your donors? We...
