I absolutely love camping at Halfmoon with my family and dogs. It's a small, quiet state park for those who love nature. There are several hiking trails for pros or little kids. It has a small beach area and offers boat rentals. It doesn't allow motor boats, so the water is nice, calm, and peaceful for a kayak, paddle board, or peddle boat ride. Lots of fish for those who like to fish, and every time we go we find cool turtles too. There are showers and bathrooms for those who don't have them in their campers. Choice of camper sites, tent sites, cabins and a cute cottage. There's a playground with basket ball hoop, but I haven't been there in a few years, as we camp on the opposite side of the pond. Great for bike riding. The staff are all super friendly, helpful and do a great job keeping the park looking nice. There is no cell service or wifi within the park, except for a bar or two in a few select spots, like the playground or middle of the pond, but I enjoy the digital detox for myself and my family, and better service can be found 5 minutes down the road in for those who need it. I look forward to many more years of camping...
Read moreMy daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights before staying at Bomoseen State Park for 2 nights. The atmosphere between the 2 parks are night and day, which was expected - what was not expected was the level of care the staff here clearly puts into the sites and bathrooms! Possibly the best cared for sites and bathrooms I've seen in VT state parks thus far. (Whereas Bomoseen was the worst...) The only not so great thing about this park were the horse and deer flies. My bites are still driving me crazy! But it's a lovely pond, and the bugs love it too! The staff was also incredibly nice and helpful. While there, we were expecting a storm with strong winds. The staff went around to give people a heads up on the timing, offered more tent stakes if needed, and even offered up ideas for things to do in the area during the storm. We will...
Read more1st camp in Vermont and it blew our expectations. Got a cabin on the water in September. No crowds, barely any people and everyone was very respectful. Most spaces seem private with lots of foliage and good proximity to water & amenities. The restrooms were ample, clean, bright, and the whole place felt very safe. Kayaked on pond full of Lily pads and hiked to a couple different bodies of water. The play area was grassy, huge, and equipped with swings, volleyball and basketball nets. Idk if all VT state parks are this nice but we're coming...
