Delightful expedition with a variety of experiences available to the wanderer, with a go-at-your-own pace to meander about the inside and the outside of the facilities.
Kids had fun playing in the Welcome Center with the schoolroom and the house. They also had a challenge to overcome with the scaveger hunt on the property. The scavenger list and crayons are freely available in the Welcome Center. Make sure you get at least one to help direct your travels.
Restrooms were clean and well kept! Hurrah!
Encountered some folks walking dogs on the paths who were well-mannered... both the people and the canines. Also saw new parents pushing a stroller, a couple of retired folk relaxing by the water, and a few others on a walkabout. The entire adventure was pleasant, unhurried, and not crowded.
The Welcome Center greeter, the other tourists were helpful and friendly, as well.
Signs indicated that dogs were not allowed in some areas.
While we just strolled about, Carriage Hills does offer both hiking and horse trails for those more prepared to adventure.
Overall, we experienced a quiet and tranquil expedition with a leisurely walk through nature on a well-kept trail, a visit through time past, and lovely exchanges with the horses, donkeys, sheep, and more. Would recommend this bucolic opportunity and would be...
Read moreCarriage Hill is one of my favorite places in Dayton. The historic farm is fun and informative for all ages, and best of all, it is free! There are plenty of animals to visit and a number of volunteers that help to preserve the historic experience. The country store offers a variety of penny candies and other gifts, which is neat. In addition to the farm there are several miles of wooded trails, two picnic shelters, and lots of wildlife! The park itself is dog friendly; however dogs are not allowed on site at the farm. There IS a sign stating that on the main gate at the farm. Fair warning though, the trails are loaded with ticks so I personally only go without my dog! There is one very large pond upon entering the park, and one smaller pond further into the trails. Carriage Hill also offers horse back riding at their riding center in the back of the park. An hour trail ride is $30 per person. Pony rides are also available for kids under 8 years old for only $5. They also offer riding lessons and the stable takes in volunteers that want to work with the horses! I go to Carriage Hill very frequently and my only complaint is the ticks, which is not the fault of the park! Beautiful place to relax and...
Read moreI went to this park on a whim 5 years ago. And was glad I did. It was very interesting. There is an old pioneer village where you can watch how people lived back then. Cooking, farming, blacksmithing, and other things. The place includes a lot of farm animals for the kids to check out. There are a lot of nice hiking trails here too, as well as a lake and small lagoon (which is farther back on the property) to fish. Trails for horseback riding are also in the area. The visitor center was interesting. But we went back after the rona, and some of the cool things that were there back then, were shut down. There was no more opened snack/ice cream type window, and the gift shop was no longer open. Its a shame, thus my 4 star instead of 5. The visitor center still has displays and educational areas though. I'd still recommend going. And will be going back myself on the next warmer weekend we get. Oh, I forgot to mention it, but there are bathrooms available. And they seem well-taken care of. So that's...
