I really liked (and suggest for most people) staying on the main Alum Hollow Trail, it's the most clearly marked and 'easier' path to walk. The really neat waterfalls, creek, and caves are found on the far west side of the trail, near the intersection at Alum Hollow/OakBluff/Ranger Trail. I will say, I also did Ranger Trail on the way back, and it was pretty difficult and very poorly marked. There were countless times I was searching all over for tree markers and often there was no clear trail to follow, just random rocks and paths leading off into all random directions, trying to find your way through. I even had the AllTrails app running with GPS (I highly recommend), and had to keep pausing to find my way through. I went in July, and even though the paths are mostly shaded from the sun which is nice, there were tons of mosquitoes, and you'll be walking through and eating spider webs for the rest of the day on these 'less traveled paths'🤮. Overall, the Hollow trail was really nice, and much more friendly for the average person. There's a ton of other trails back here to hike, so have fun and don't get lost. ;)

Great trail overall, I would say low-medium difficulty depending on the route and distance you go. My 5yo son and I hiked to Talus, a beautiful rock formation and spring worth it even when it’s dry. You also can’t miss the Alum Hollow overhang. The paths are well maintained but could do with some updated signage as there are a couple shortcuts that aren’t labeled, which could result in some wandering if you don’t know where they go.

This was my first hike, ever! We took the Alum trail which wasn’t so bad. The only part that I had trouble with were the steep steps. Mostly because of my weak knees. The waterfall was a lot smaller than I imagined, but the rocky side that was open underneath was amazing! We thought we would make a loop by taking Ranger trail…that was a mistake. It didn’t take us long to see that we needed to go back the way we came. Ranger trail isn’t marked well. It had a steep incline covered in fallen leaves and rocks. On our way out, we talked with a more advanced hiker and was told that he couldn’t find the trail markers for Ranger either. All in all, I’m proud of this out of shape, 58 year old mom, for taking on this adventure. I will hike again 😊 This was on...

This place is a hidden gem, with well marked paths, plenty of parking, beautiful wildlife and gorgeous views. While it isn't well advertised it has several offshoot trails to give you many hours of hiking and picture opportunities. We flushed up 8 deer and saw an entire family of baby armadillos which, strangely enough were cute. They were not used to humans and walked up to us within a foot and just checked us out (got great video from that). Try this place, you won't be...
