Visited here on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 while camping at nearby Monte Sano State Park. It's a deceased wealthy medical doctor's mansion that was custom-designed and built back by him in the early 1920s, and also one of the first homes in the Huntsville area to have electric wiring installed during its construction. Inside, there is some, but it's a bit sparse, so it does not take too long to walk around and see it. Outside, on the mansion's grounds (about 2 acres in total), there is a beautiful view of the city of Huntsville's old downtown area, located a few miles west of and a thousand feet below the cliff line. Additionally, on the north side of the property, there are a few old farm buildings and cabins and a petting zoo with goats, donkeys, burros, and chickens as well as an old school house that was built for African Americans during the days of segregation. Admission was only like $5 each so it's a great place to take children. Definitely pay this place visit if you are going to be in the Huntsville metro area for business or pleasure and you've got about 2 hours to spare. On the afternoon we visited, the staff were setting up a full bar under a canopy out on the grounds, and a bunch of round tables for a sunset cocktail fundraiser. We couldn't stay for that, but would...

Beautiful views. That’s it. No place for food. Historic park is lacking in authenticity but is a nice walk and fun to explore regardless.

Actual mansion is very small inside and there is only items in one room, the parlor, that are original to the house and interesting. Very little information around regarding various rooms, their purposes etc…There is a quilt exhibit on display and while the quilts are lovely I don’t understand why they are in the mansion? It just needs more explanation and more artifacts and facts in general. But it is pretty.

The trails and hiking are the best thing about this place. Gorgeous views and scenery abound.

I might be biased having the amazing Old World Wisconsin at home in my state and having recently visited other historic mansions in the area with far more information and artifacts.

I’m sure it’s great for weddings and events and maybe that is why it is so empty on the inside.

I do feel the price is worth it for the trails, views, and...

I look at everything as a whole. This place is nice and has some good views of huntsville has a walking trail and 6 or 7 cabins....however it is absolutely not worth price of admission. 2 adults and 2 kids for $36 is a little ridiculous for a self guided tour with not a whole lot to see or do. Most of the staff there was absolutely wonderful and helpful except for one lady she was rude to my kids and wouldn't let the knit or touch her knitting stuff and this was on a children's fun day where they are supposed to be able to interact and do things they did back in the 1800's so it felt to me and my wife like she just thought our kids were too young to care so why bother teaching them. Other than her everyone else was great. But as far as the whole place being worth $36 I see more of a $20 value on this where kids under 10 get in free they shouldn't have to pay for suffering through a boring...

We went for the Fire on the Mountain event and were incredibly disappointed. We had expected it to be a lively event with blacksmiths showing off their craft and the opportunity to eat the open flame food but instead we had the underwhelming experience of just watching a couple of blacksmiths heat and hammer some hot pieces of metal. The only thing I saw them make was a nail. We also thought we’d get to taste the open flame cooking but instead we watched them prepare food that no one was allowed to eat. For the amount visitors have to pay you’d think there’d be more to this place than the hodgepodge collection of old buildings from different original locations. Even the animals looked depressed. The only thing saving it from a 1-star rating is the view on the overlook. Don’t waste your time here or don’t show up with any high expectations.

This is a MUST visit attraction if you’re in Huntsville! It’s not only a small mansion tour but there is so much to do and see for both adults & children. The history is fascinating as the backyard holds a school house, church, animal farm, garden, and wood cabins from the gold mining days! The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and you can tell they truly enjoy the work they do in preserving this place’s history! My favorite part of the visit was being able to literally step inside the old wooden cabins and seeing the antique furniture displays! Tickets: $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, military, teachers, & students, $8 for children ages 3-18, FREE for those under 2 yo
