It was really hard to determine the number of stars to leave. I love having a park of this caliber so close to where I am. Disc golf course, small and large dog parks, wooded working dog park, playground, greenway, and archery range. At one point they were planning on building some ball fields not sure which sport, but I think the plans got nixed because the archery range was built. There is still space but we will see what happens. Apparently the archery range was built because the state wanted one in Huntsville. It never gets used I would have preferred outdoor racquetball or something.

The disc golf course is all right. I like Brahn Springs, UAH, and Monte Sano more. I go mostly for the dog park and greenway.

Be very careful going to the dog park after a rain, it gets very muddy and floods. The whole thing used to be a swamp and farmland. Be careful going to the large dog section in the summer time there are not a lot trees so the dogs get very hot. I've seen people put there large dogs in the small dog section because it's shaded but that is just dangerous for the small dogs.

The pavilion seems nice. It seems like there is a party every...

This is a great Park with a narrow but deep space for small dogs. And also has a space for big dogs. There's a space for working dogs that's kind of woodsy. I'm knocking off a star because both at the main entry and at the end there is a gap sufficient for small dogs to escape. At the main entry they can get underneath the gate. At the end the gate does not close completely so they can just walk through it. The park was relatively clean with not much poo on the ground. People should clean up after their dogs but you know some just don't. There is a pool at the entryway for dogs who like the splash and they even have a communal water bowl. There is also a trail that leads to Aldridge Creek trail. There are restrooms on the premises...

I used to love this dog park. Now it seems like the upkeep isn't being done on it.

It's basically unusable without heavy duty bug repellent. All these bumps on my dog in the photo are mosquito bites from the dog park. He picked up 30+ of them in a half hour. I gave up counting.

I have quite a few as well.

There is a ton of untreated standing water in the wooded area of the dog park and the mosquitos just come over to feast on the patrons of the park. My dog also got intestinal parasites from the water back there.

Avoid this park unless you have heavy duty bug spray, and keep out of the wooded section of the dog park unless you want a hefty vet bill for intestinal worms.

Fix the...

To avoid the "Heat" later today (MON 2025.07.07), after i arrived and parked my vehicle at Ken Johnston Park (~05:10), we quickly went for our ~5+ mi walk (CCW Loop): neighborhood, and Aldridge Creek Greenway). The neighborhood, Aldridge Creek Greenway, Southside Park, Astro Dog Park and Ken Johnston were well-maintained and clean. Encountered a total of ~30+ people and ~8 dogs on the Greenway. Everyone was cheery and friendly.

Beautiful relaxing place to go after work. This park offers quite a lot of commodities as opposed to any other park in the area. It is connected to the walkway as well. Even an archery range and a frisbee golf course. Overall love coming here whether it's to watch the deer that will occasionally pass by at sunset or if its to go take a relaxing walk by the creek.
