UAH is not a good school for commuters due to lack of parking. Parking fee is $140 plus $25 for your first parking ticket and $50 for subsequent tickets. And you will receive tickets because the campus police purposely troll parking lots to give out tickets to commuters, knowing that there is not a parking spot for each commuter. The initial fee and tickets are a blatant money grab and should be illegal. They oversell the spots, much like airline flights. UAH probably includes parking ticket fees in its annual budgets. Example of how it takes advantage of commuters: on the first day of class, when everything is always chaotic, all the parking police were out in full force giving out tickets (plus they parked in student parking spots, making the shortage even worse.) The first day is their best chance to bring in parking ticket revenue because later, after some students drop classes, a few spots might open up. Giving tickets on the first day of class is like penalizing middle school students when their bus is late on the first day. Out of a sense of decency and understanding, that never happens. Someday there will be a class action lawsuit. Finally, it should be noted that the parking appeal form makes you certify every possible reason for getting the ticket is not the reason you got the ticket, precluding you...
Read moreA ton of people will have different opinions on this particular university, but I'm going to speak from a student's perspective.
That being said....
I LOATHE UAH! I have spent five years at the university with little support from the faculty or my peers. I am only half through my major. The professors seem to only be concerned about research and the money coming into the school. I have been talked down to and yelled at by them with no corrective action ever being taken. The overall atmosphere becomes bland with time. Education (in the old sense of the word) is meant to be an enlightening experience.
I still haven't had that moment yet at the university.
The way UAH is structured does not promote education, yet instead aids those who are gifted enough to contribute to the school. In other words, they pull in the most brilliant minds and discard the rest, but that is just...
Read moreI found international admissions communication to be the worst among 30 universities that I applied to. I can't find where to complain or request another admissions advisor. Nobody tries to listen and help international students' issues. This is my experience when applying as an international transfer student to UAH, and it's been a month since I applied but no decision has been made. One time she tells me we didn't have your transcript; the same person tells me your application is different for next term; then she marks my application complete on the portal and tells me to resend your transcript. I'm running in circles. They're not taking student's...
