I absolutely love this park bc it's a true simple nature park and never crowded like the other metro parks. There is a good hill used for sledding in winter. The area used to access the Huron river is nice for putting in canoes and fishing off the shore. There are 2 out houses here for bathroom use. The nature center is small, but they always have a few reptiles inside and also display native American life. Outside the center are some injured birds that are well cared for, which is currently an owl and a hawk. The outside trails are of varying lengths and paths along the park. The longest main path is paved and will lead u from the back of park to front where it joins with Willow Metro Park. It's a multi use trail. There are a few dirt trails only for hikers & no pets, that take u deep into the woods & one takes u along a pond. Another wide grass trail takes u along the huron river and has very neat beaver activity where u can see where beavers are chewing on many many logs. Those wide grass trails are used for hiking or horses only. If u want playgrounds and pools then u need to go to Lower Huron Metro...
Read moreWe run or bike through the park on a daily basis. Maintained paved path that connects the other Metroparks to Oakwoods to Huroc Park suitable for running, biking, roller blading, boarding, etc. We see deer, rabbits, and birds (good place to see migratory birds). There are restrooms at the Nature Center and a portable toilet on the trail. There are bridal trails I have not explored that go closer to the river (trains do go by, be aware owners of skittish horses).
The other nearby parks are more interesting and have more amenities, but Oakwoods is nonetheless a valuable asset and a good link between Flat Rock and the...
Read moreThis park is a bit on the sparser side but still quite enjoyable. There is a wildlife center for the kiddos, plenty of river walks and paths to enjoy over and over. The butterfly walk is kept quite tidy during the typical buggy summer months making it not only walkable but very enjoyable. There are paths by the nature center that will bring you to a cute pond and other scenic views. I spend many hours walking the horse trails, river path, butterfly walk and nature trails. In fact you can walk to Huroc Park in flat Rock if you follow the bike trail going south and east. Love this Metropark. It's an important...
