Visited Point Aux Barques Lighthouse on July 26 in the afternoon. We had been to the lighthouse several years ago when there happened to be a festival going on. This time there wasn’t a festival so we were able to enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of the lighthouse.
The lighthouse wasn’t busy at all. The first stop was to the little gift shop. There were 3 women working in the gift shop. Not one of them greeted us or spoke to us at anytime while my family was looking around. They continued to carry on their personal conversation the whole time. I don’t expect to carry on a conversation with employees but an acknowledgment would have been nice. We did not buy anything while in there but they did have some nice shirts/sweatshirts. Also as a former cross stitcher, it was nice to see they had a couple cross stitch patterns of the lighthouse.
After getting ignored in the gift shop, we headed back outside. There were two guys doing landscaping maintenance. The shorter of the two stopped to talk to us and made us feel welcomed.
The lighthouse wasn’t opened to go up in but that is OK as my husband and daughters had gone up several years ago.
We did not stay very long at the lighthouse as it was a pretty warm sunny day and there were no benches in the shade that I saw. It would have been nice to sit and enjoy the view of the water.
If we ever get back to that area again, I would definitely stop again for a...
Read moreThere were about 10 people who stopped in on Wednesday 7/28 at 11:15 am. I understand your gift shop is not open during these hours. HOWEVER, the gift shop door was wide open and a very rude older woman (pictured) would not accommodate anyone who wanted to make a cash purchase for postcards. Seems a bit odd that you see a group who wants to spend money but won’t simply because of a formality. The woman was there, she could have allowed us to grab a few post cards. Instead she told us to leave. Museums are hurting and are always desperate for money. What gives? We could have used credit cards as well if cash was not available for change. The museum I Docent for never would have done this or treated visitors this way. You make the exception each and every time for gift...
Read moreWhat a charming historical site! The structures are well-preserved, and the lakefront views are quite spectacular. Do take the museum tour, whether self-guided or with one of the docents... loads of historical documents and artifacts, the latter always with explanations. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, including Mimi, Lori, Larry, and the gentleman whose name I didn't catch (it was inventory day for you 😀)... each of you contributed to making this special for...
