It doesn't matter if you think you're ten feet tall and bulletproof or a little timid and want to build some self confidence, you should spend some time here. The "jocks" will get a lesson in humility and the rest of us will realize we can do hard things!
A group of us (male and female aged 25-80) went to The Ropes last Saturday and had a great time. John and his team have created a safe, challenging, fun experience that most people will be able to enjoy and come away with more self confidence. This is in the initial development so we only did the ropes course, but we were told it will eventually have a zip line, ax throwing, aerial trampolines and more.
After a brief orientation, you strap into a safety harness (instructed step-by-step), put on gloves and a helmet (thoroughly disinfected prior to use) and have a buddy do a safety check. Safety is a high priority! Then you waddle to the "entrance" where you receive another orientation and explanation about the equipment. With that completed, you clamp your "crab claw" to the safety cable and climb up to the first of five levels.
Each level has 5-8 different obstacle that are designed to challenge your strength, coordination, equilibrium, and other physical skills. You can do them all, or only those your choose. If something looks too intimidating, you bypass it. Each level becomes increasingly more challenging and demanding. I spent about three hours on the course, but didn't do every obstacle. By the time I worked my way up to level five, I was certain I was going to be sore the next day because I used muscles I didn't know I had. I'm 70 years old and did all five levels. Having said that, there were people younger than me that stopped at lower levels, so there's something for everyone. There's no pressure to complete all or any of the levels. You can do what suits you. If you get tired, you can quit or rest
A couple side notes. First, if you're afraid of heights, you may not want to try the ropes course. Heights don't bother me so I never felt uncomfortable even perched 60' in the air on the side of a pole. My wife, however is terrified of even the lowest rung on a ladder, so she refused to go. The worse that could happen if you make a misstep during an obstacle is that you fall a couple feet, then your safety harness and lanyard stop you. You may dangle in the air for brief moment before you can grab a cable or regain your footing, but that just adds to the excitement. Personally, I think if you're someone who is a little apprehensive about heights, this would be a good way to "face your fear." Oh, as part of the safety factor, there were always two or three safety employees (dressed in bright orange) on the course watching for anyone who might be having trouble.
Finally, if I were going again I'd probably take my own gloves. The gloves are rubber coated on the palms and fingers to ensure a good grip. The pair I was given were well-used from people sliding their hands along the safety cable and ropes. They were well used but were still usable.
This was a great way to spend some time. I think it would be a perfect family activity (for older kids) because the very nature of it encourages team work, communicating and interaction....
Read moreWe are locals and decided to visit this new attraction to see what it was all about. The course itself was awesome-it was scary and challenging, but also felt super safe and secure. My 8 year old and I made it all the way to the top level. The transitions were tricky and frustrating at first, but the more you go through, the more it becomes second nature. There’s only one course at the moment, but they have plans to add more. There’s also tramps with harnesses for flipping. I highly suggest going at dusk, so you can catch a gorgeous southern Utah sunset from the course, surrounded by mountains.
It was a slow start, as they were slightly understaffed and just opening, but those are kinks I’m sure they’ll get worked out the longer they’re open.
We also really enjoyed the donuts. They were freshly made right in front of us and it was fun choosing our flavors. A little pricey, but fun for one night. Fair warning, because they’re made fresh, be prepared for a wait.
Those that were height averse in our party stayed inside and played on the simulators, games and ax throwing. There was something for every age and level of skill. All in all, a great night! I highly recommend for your next southern...
Read moreHad a great time at the ropes course. Daniel was our guide and was very friendly and knowledgeable of local area things to do. The C style safety system means you are never detached from the safety equipment and all equipment, hardware, and obstacles were in great condition. The employees gave us a rundown of the company’s future plans for the site and if all goes to plan the place will be epic. I’ve been on 5 high ropes courses now and this was definitely one of better ones. Great job yall.
