Parker Dam State Park is a fantastic place for camping, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, swimming, and family get togethers. It's close proximity to Saint Marys, DuBois, and Clearfield makes it handy for locals to enjoy and for out-of-town guests to access grocery and local entertainment. There are several hiking trails ranging from easy to challenging, as well as cross country skiing during the winter months. There is a great deal of history surrounding this park due to the involvement of the Civilian Conservation Corp in constructing the dam and some of the cabins in the park itself (the CCC is a fascinating piece of history unto itself, and a lot of information is available throughout the park at various locations). There are pavilions located throughout the park that are reservable for family reunions, birthdays, etc. There are also picnic tables and fixed charcoal grills at a variety of locations for use by everyone (no reservation required). There is a large, very well-maintained campground which is being renovated to include full hookups, modern shower houses at 2 locations in the park, and pet-friendly sites as well. There are also cabins that can be reserved year-round; the cabins are some distance away from the campground, however (the opposite side of the lake to be exact). I've gone to Parker Dam on a regular basis since I was a small child, and I never get tired...
Read moreIt’s a must sight seeing place for all age categories. Its equipped with a nice Lake used for Boats 🛶, a small swim area and a large area for fishing too. The main attraction is the Dam which you can easily cross from one end to the other on huge rocks laid down accessible through the wooden steps provided at either ends. Do visit the small Museum too at the Entrance of the Dam Area. There is Ample Car / Bus Parking Area. There is a good eatery joint with wide variety of Menu and the Owner Treasa is a Gem 💎 of a person with a broad Smile and caring. There are also Cabins available for rent and the Office Staff is such a nice lady ready to guide you around and hand over with a Map 🗺 to explore the whole area. There are lot of benches available and huge area to move around and have your food. The Rest Rooms are also clean and neatly maintained. You should plan leaving early morning so that you can spend one full day. The only issue with the place is Mobile Network, there Is absolutely “No Service” . If you are lucky you might get near the Sugar Factory where they make MAPLE SYRUP.
One more thing to note is that this place Cafeteria & Rentals doesn’t accept any CREDIT or DEBIT Cards, you need to carry enough Cash or Cheque leaflets.
Enjoy your summer have...
Read moreDisappointing. The area is beautiful and the staff are pleasant. There appear to be some great hiking trails nearby.
I gave it only two stars for a few reasons. The campsites are closer together than we are used to in a state park. There is NO cell service at the campground. I had to drive about two miles down the entry road to get 2 bars of 4g service. Normally not a problem but I was awaiting an important call. My wife was walking our dog and another families dog got loose and attached ours. The lady who owned that dog didn't seem concerned. When I reported the incident to the camp host, he didn't seem concerned. Quiet hours start at 9:00 pm but there was a group of people about 3 sites from us that were having a party until almost 10:30 pm. No rangers or anyone in the area to address the problem and no cell service to call anyone. The restroom near our site was very dated and not very clean. The shower is a newer and cleaner building but wasn't very close.
We left after one night instead of the original planned three nights. The staff did refund two nights fees because of the...
