It's a wonderful park more aimed at couples who love a stroll hand in hand at the lake , peaceful and serene. In Winter admire the majestic waves with chunks of ice as they crash up against the round pier, that's located on the Northeast side of the cement walkway. While on your way there admire what you or I could imagine the ruins of cauldron support walls, one now with rock climbers supports for the avid climber. Sneak past the chainlink fence that has a NO TRESPASSING sign and enter the first doorway to be amazed at the longest tunnel you'll ever see ...lit by the sunlight that comes through a series of doorways that line the whole length of the cauldron support wall because this is where you'll find yourself to be. Here you are also at a long pier, admire the crystal blue water that sometimes host avid fishermen. Stay and admire the sunset as it will mesmerize you with its beautiful colors of yellow, red, green and blue, but please bundle up and what better way to stay warm than to hug your love one while feasting upon what nature...
Read moreFree parking. Free wall rock climbing. Meditative walk. Super tranquil vibe in the garden areas. We spent about 2 hours here, I was expecting a larger area with more trails, but it was a great time nonetheless. We brought some sandwiches and enjoyed them by the benches outlooking the water amidst the buzzing bees in the background(not at all in your face as they have a whole prairie of flowers to entertain them) the breeze, the birds signing their tunes. And then walked over to the wall. We got very lucky as they were getting ready to put sesy their equipment gor the day and since we drove from Evanston, the volunteers said they'd be glad to get us up there for a few minutes. These were volunteers helping visitors up the wall. They have volunteer hours on Saturdays. Expetiencef climbers can come any time and do their thing. There's different paths up, some easy and some way more challenging than the rest. Had a great time! Come and...
Read moreOur first time in the park. We enjoyed visiting this lakeside green space- seeing nature mixed with remnants of industry. It was fantastic and unexpected to see the CFD helicopter (I think) fly by and a barge going out. It was fun to imagine with my boys where it was going... Another cool feature is one of the large concert slabs is converted into a climbing wall. However, it has no setup for harness climbers like my guys. They use their arms only. We climb with the Adaptive Climbing Program, Adaptive Adventures, and SRALab Sports and Fitness Center. So, I hope the Chicago Park District will make this wall more inclusive, like the one at Maggie Daley Park. Though we appreciate the ADA portapotty, I hope there are plans for permanent restrooms. Picnic tables would be...
