Palm Beach Yacht Center — Attraction in Hypoluxo

They seemed nice but they basically commandeered my little outboard engine. I brought my Mercury 2.5hp in for a diagnostic and potentially for them to do the work on it. They said it would be $155 for them to check out the engine and they would let me know the damage and cost for further work from there. They said it would be $763 for the work and the parts. It didn’t make sense to me to drop this much on an engine that you could buy brand new for about $850 so I told them I’ll just take it back and do the work myself. They then told me that it would cost an additional $155 for them to put it back together. So they wanted $310 total for the diagnostic when I was under the impression it would be $155. At this point I said you can just keep it. And I’m sure they fixed and sold it for a nice little profit. I’m new to the boating world but this seems like a predatory practice. I frequently gas up our boat and jetski at Palm Beach Yacht Center, and the guy who works in the shop always is a pleasure. (I apologize for not remembering his name at the moment.) The other day PBYC employee Keith really helped me out in an EMERGENCY situation! Our boat’s waste holding tank was full and my wife and I were having another couple on our boat that day. I took the boat to PBYC to pump out and the freakin’ cap to the holding tank wouldn’t budge due to corrosion. Keith went above and beyond in helping me get that cap off - allowing our guests, my wife and me to have a “comfortable” day on the water. The crew at Palm Beach Yacht Center are great! We use them to haul out several of our boats many times a year. Doug and his travel lift crew led by David take great pride and care in moving our valuable assets in a timely manner. Brett and Dave in the office have been very helpful in their respective departments. The paint crew also has done great work for us when called upon. Everyone are always friendly, professional, accommodating and very helpful. Between the yard crew and their approved sub contractors we are able to reliably do the work needed and return to the water on time.
