The tree farm is a unique place to visit with your family, and most aspects of it are great. The food is good and affordable, the shop has cute decor items, and thereâs an area where local crafters sell their products. However, there is a petting zoo with animals like goats, cows, and horses. Those are all fine, but they also have rabbits at this petting zoo. Some rabbits are kept in a small area filled only with hay, and Iâve seen children climb into that area and pick up the rabbits. Also, some rabbits are kept in wire cages with no bedding, food, or hides for them to go into. Plus, theyâre selling these poor bunnies for 15 dollars. Rabbits are a huge commitment. They live for 10 years, you must take them to an expensive exotic animal vet, and they should not live in cages and should either be free-range in the house or have a large area dedicated to them. Itâs absolutely unbelievable that this farm is selling these bunnies at such a cheap price, encouraging families to buy a cute bunny that theyâre probably going to get rid of once they realize how much care they really entail. On top of that, rabbits are not very friendly. They must be socialized in order to be friendly, and it is really stressful for these rabbits to be chased around by children, especially when there are no hides for them to go into to escape. Stop selling these rabbits, and at the very least give them proper living conditions. I love coming to the tree farm but your treatment of these animals is...

Read moreWent out to Ida for our yearly family tradition yesterday. We went to Matthes Tree Farm and we were bummed to find the fields sparse. The fields that had trees only had baby trees. Seems like the growing has been mismanaged since someone else took over a couple years ago. We have been going there for over 10 years so this was disheartening. However, not all was lost. We found this cute little farm called Ryan's just a few miles from there. Looks like the tradition can continue just not at exactly the same spot. I hope that matthes tree farm gets better again. Maybe if they start doing things the way they used to. I had to knock off a star because if you are traveling a long way to get a tree like we did and find that there are barely any trees when you get there then it is not worth going. I had never seen the fields so bare in the past decade as they were yesterday. There are still activities there and Santa and the staff is really friendly so if you're going there just for a fun day out with the family then this is the place! But if you want to get a tree then you might want to wait 5 to 7 years for all the baby trees...
