Three important take-aways! 1. DO NOT take the Google recommended route (fastest route) where you turn at Lenore Grade. It turns into a very narrow, GRAVEL road, horrible for RV's! If coming from the West (like Lewiston), take the route to Juliaetta and Kindrick (Hwy 3). It is only about 10 minutes longer, paved the entire way and is easier on your rigs. 2. You should download and print directions, as you will lose internet service shortly after turning off of HYW 12. 3. The last 20 minutes becomes a very steep, very narrow road with tight switch-backs (one-lane priority for RV's and big trucks). Be sure your brakes are good before you take this trip. We were fortunate to stay in the best loop - Kokanne- (privacy, nice spaces and very pretty). The other loops had less privacy and were a bit noisier. The beach area for swimming is extremely muddy and not much fun. We made the best of it but would have had much more fun had we been in a boat. The rangers and other camp staff were extremely nice and helpful and it was really beautiful. I think if we had taken a boat and taken the easier route, our experience would have been a 4!

Such a beautiful place! You are close to the water and the mountains! However the gps doesn’t know where this place is.. so if you “arrive” in the middle of nowhere, just keep driving until you see the signs several miles down the road. There is minimal reception here so download offline maps to help by the way! The water is a bit muddy, but very warm and nice to swim in. The campground is very open and “neighborly”. I loved that there were also free showers here along with clean bathrooms. There are also several trails and you can find all kinds of berries! Would definitely come back here again.

Bring a boat. We did some tent camping, which was super cramped on the side of a pretty steep hill. Our campsite was 79, which was inches away from the next campsite, so avoid that one at least. Some of the other sites looked better, but we didn't know any better. You really need to bring a boat to have fun here. The water is always too low for the swimming area. You can still swim, but you have to walk through mud. Take it or leave it. The road to get there is ridiculous. Way too primitive for all the boats and RVs. The camp did seem to have nice staff, so that was good.

We just camped in tent site #80. Sites are very small and super close together. Site #79 is inches away, ZERO privacy. The family next to us had a toddler that screamed for hours at bedtime making it impossible for my kiddos to sleep. The site has a level pad for your tent but the rest is on sloped ground making it slippery to walk on. Each site does have a picnic table and firepit. This time of year the lake is SUPER LOW. You have to walk down a steep, rocky hill to get to the water. The bank is muddy and its muddy in the water as well. The views are beautiful. The bathrooms were really dirty and smelled SO BAD! Lots of bees, 2 of us got stung. Check in was easy. I was super grateful to be able to make a reservation instead of first come first serve. They do sell ice at the entrance to the park. We did see some deer in the camground which the kids liked. This is probably not a campground I...

We camped at the Freeman Creek campground. Really nice, clean, well-maintained campground. We were on the Kokanee loop, where the sites were spacious and level, with water and electrical hookups. There were many water spigots/fountains as well as toilets and a clean, well-kept shower facility with goo water pressure. Also lots of parking.

Great place for boating, swimming, hiking, berry picking, and just relaxing. The gate staff and camp host were all friendly and helpful.

The road dropping into the campground is tight and windy, with lots of signs warning that large RVs and trailers will need both lanes to navigate the hairpin turns. That could get tricky if you aren't comfortable with your rig or encounter a lot of other vehicles coming in or out. Just something to be prepared for. We really enjoyed our...
