Craters has a lot to offer, but hands down Indian Tunnel is the most fun. You can go all the way through until you pop up through a tiny hole (literally) at the far end, then make your way over the surface back to the trail. You'll find this physically easier than it looks. And if you ever doubt yourself, look ahead to see tiny children scrambling down the tunnel, or (my favorite) parents with babies in backpacks as they climb across the rubble. Even an old fat guy like me had fun. And, yes, I fit through that tiny hole exit at the far end. I'd go back to Craters next week, just for Indian Tunnel. It was that cool.

Bring some workgloves as that makes it easier to grab the lava rocks you're climbing...

The middle of summer is probably not the best time to do this. The trail to the tunnel is very hot! The tunnel itself was an interesting place! It is cooler in the tunnel. There was several big sky windows where it has collapsed previously. The blue sky looked pretty through them. There are some dark spots that could require a flashlight for safe footing. This tunnel does not have a path in it so you are traveling over very uneven ground. There is a couple times where you have to travel up and down rocky mounds. May not be best for someone who easily twist their ankle, or for very young children or elders. The Lava Tubes are like nothing else you will ever have seen! It is worth the trip...

This is a very cool collapsed lava tube to explore, located at Craters of the Moon. The path to the tunnel is paved, but once you enter the cave, you will have some rocks to climb over. If you don't feel comfortable going through the tunnel over the rocks, you can exit back out the entrance and for all the rest of you adventurous people, the climb over the rocks will take you out through a small hole at the other end. It's well worth your time to explore this amazing geological formation made by the powerful forces of nature. This area is a rock hound dream with miles of places to explore. As always, leave no trace, leave it better than you found it,...

WOAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! the cave was a little disappointing but the tunner was so fun! you can just run around and hop on rocks for like a mile or sumn, sometimes in the dark! got some absolutely bonkers pictures here too I'd go back in a heartbeat. There was a kid here that kept talking about how there was a hole that was very small and led to this huge section and I went around it and saw they were going a very tiny cramped route to get to the main part of the cave where there was a giant pathway leading to it. Kids are silly man.

If you have explored lava tunes before, then this will be a similar experience. This collection of tube segments is quite large and similar to the ones around MT Shasta and lava beds national park. You don't need a head lamp, but it would be advisable to bring a stronger light source than your phone. In the tunnel, you will be able and have to climb over rocks in areas where the roof caved in. For the rock hounds of your group, there is a lot to see and enjoy.
