Awesome place for Dual Sport Riders, or anyone really. Amazing place with a really interesting history. Main road (Skyline Drive) is easy enough for all but the most low setting cars. There are signs along the way pointing out historical and natural aspects of the park. There are four improved campsites along the road offering basic amenities. Fireplace day use area, has large sheltered picnic area with firepit and toilet, there are campsites across the road with table/firepit. Redtail Campground, new sites large enough for small trailer or rv/van. Toilet, potable water and each site has table/firepit. Mission mountain has a few 3-4 campsites with tables/firepit and toilet. Potable water is available just down the hill. Iron Mountain campground to the north end has several campsites with a toilet, there are tables and firepits in each site. There are also quite a few smaller sites dispersed along Skyline Drive with tables and firepits. I have camped all over this area during all 4 seasons. It is especially nice during the winter, although most of the roads are blocked by heavy snow. There are miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking and motorcycle/atv. Be aware these are multi-use trails. From single track to mild two track atv trails. I have seen many rigs with bike trailers, a few smaller trailers 15-20' and several smaller RV/Vans. I would not recommend larger rigs, road is narrow and few turn around spots along with low hanging branches along the road. Be aware there are fire restrictions listed specifically for this area visit website...

This place is great. I stopped over for a night on the way from Boise to Bonners Ferry and liked it so well I stayed 2 extra nights. There's a lot of day-use traffic on the road, particularly on the weekend, but I didn't see many campers.

A few notes about camping here:

  1. Dispersed sites are a bit scarce. There are a handful of good/large ones...like two or three...and a few more that aren't much more than a narrow perch beside the road.

  2. There are a couple of other places that are labelled 'campgrounds' that really have only one or possibly two sites each. Fireplace, for example, has one good site and one marginal (not flat) site.

  3. The campground near mile marker 8 is really nice. It's got perhaps 10 sites with tables and fire rings, plus a vault toilet. The only downside here is that it's situated in an area that's exposed to the wind. If there is any wind, it will be worse here than in other, more sheltered spots. Some sites have little walls that appear to be wind-blockers. The sites are relatively flat and spacious. I haven't driven an RV for a couple of years now so I'm getting rusty on estimating where they will fit, but I think several of these sites might accommodate a moderately-sized rig, say a 25 foot Class...

I took a day drive from Spokane and stopped by this park on the way home. My car navigation lost the roads but the little arrow still moved in empty space. My phone did a little better. I knew I was in Idaho (I love Idaho) but wasn't quite sure where. So, I saw the sgn and just turned in to look around. I am definately going back to camp. The drive to the park is gravel and corduroy, if you know what that means. The park is open to recreational vehicles, you know, dirt bikes or those atv/rtv things the boys like to drive. You need to check before you go to find which roads you can drive on. I just drove my car around the mountain and checked out some camping sites. Looks good. The, I came to a viewpoint overlooking King's Valley. How beautiful. I hope to be able to go camping here for a weekend before...

Not 5 because there is no way to swim, but Is a special treasure from the heart of a man Who Loved creation and his mother. Lots of work from a very few, who served hard and well make it something worth seeing and potentially investing volunteer time into. It is also a place best Enjoyed by stargazers and people who want to spend time watching meteorites with little to no distraction it is a beautiful but desolate place.
