I love the Portneuf Wellness Center! The pictures posted are from a private party set up from the Fort Hall Casino and Hotel where I work. I love all the features this park had to offer! The dirt bike trails, the path around the park, the fishing, swimming, big fields, and play ground. You can rent the pavilions otherwise, it's first come, first serve. I highly suggest you reserve your spot because it's a very popular place. The bathrooms are usually clean. It's a fun, free place. There's a snow cone shack in the parking lot in the summer. No dogs allowed in the water No tents or stakes on the beach I wish the beach sand, was more of a sand and less like a kitty litter. I wish the sprinklers didn't go on mid day while occupancy is the highest (I fb dm them to no response to tell them in case they didn't know it was happening) Although I like the playground feature, it's not a good playground at all or at least for toddlers. Can't reach much of the equipment. Also, don't wear sandles unless you want wood chips stuck in them. Also, I was under the impression that fish and game was doing something with salmon in the section between the lake and dirt bike trails
Furthermore, I work in the amphitheater as a Season Ticket Holder Suite Server for the past four years. I've never missed a concert but the city did use the amphitheater on July 4th in 2018 and it did not go well (bad service to suites, warm beer, inexperienced staff) and it got the whole city in a huff. Additionally, the amphitheater is severely underused! In other major (ok, Pocatello isn't a major city) cities, there are free weekly movie nights for the city, use by the local high school bands, local band festivals, conferences etc... It's a shame that it doesn't happen. Also, we've been extremely lucky that we've had the people from Utah that we do running the show but it would be nice to have a local company with just as much experience around to do it! We need more events booked, our season ticket holders pay so much for their suites but don't get their money's worth, and less and less supporters are paying each year. One whole section of suites (6) was dedicated to upgrading normal ticket holders. That's never happened before this year. So, having dedicated servers and priority alcohol sales is the only thing we can give them and that makes the normal ticket holders MAD! Especially when we do absolutely no walk up service at our pop up bar and when the concessions and vendors run out of alcohol. Running out of food and alcohol really inconveniences everyone, obviously. I hope the city really pulls it together when they run events, they need to keep as many local people, who have worked the concerts on a regular basis, a chance to work the events to help guide them and prevent a bad experience...
Read moreWhat once was a pretty place that the city built for everybody in the community has become a case of what could’ve been. Nobody wants to really take care of it so the grass isn’t truly watered and mostly dying. They keep trying to plant trees, but they won’t live because no one will take care of them right way. the pathways down to the beach area are broken, falling, apart, missing , and/or dislodged which makes it exceptionally difficult to navigate if you are carrying stuff or if you may be older . Anybody else just walks down the path and hopes for the best. The amount of garbage that you can find there is ridiculous. It’s like nobody bothers to come cleaned up. Nobody enforces any actual rules and people just abuse it because they can, which is super depressing because it was a cool gift for the city and it should be something we’re proud of and take care of, but we don’t. Nobody wants to spend the money to take care of it properly so this place will continue to fall into disarray and eventually become just a pit. Hopefully I’m wrong but if you look over the last few years, it is already on the path. It’s still a good place to go to take a walk. It’s still a pretty view as you walk around. It’s got great sunset shots. It’s still nice to go in the water. It’s great that we have a place to fish. It would just be nice if the people took better care of it and the city managed and policed it better. In the end, it’s better to have it than not to have it. It’s just sad to see it degrade...
Read moreThis venue is really pretty, overlooks Pocatello, nice grassy area, it could use more trees for shade. However the Papa Roach concert they had there was a total bust! Must have been 8,000+ people standing in two lines to get in. They were supposed to open the gates at 4:00p.m., but didn't actually open them until after 5:15p.m. Only two people were scanning tickets, one person was using the wand. It would have taken them 3.5 hours plus to get everyone in line into the venue at that rate, which means most people would have missed seeing the first two bands, however it gets worse. After waiting in line for hours, the weather turns ugly and thunder and lightning start up. Security tells people to go home the concert was canceled, the band Bad Wolves posts on social media that the show is canceled see you next time Idaho. So everyone leaves. Police help get people out of the parking areas, and then after people head home that's when they say Wait, No it was just delayed and now Papa Roach and Falling in Reverse are going to play at 9:00p.m. What the actual F? Now we drove over from Wyoming it takes us two hours, so we're already headed home when they make this announcement. Terrible communication, awful planning, they needed more people to get the fans in faster, they needed to start letting people in on time, huge mistakes made. Poky can't handle hosting the big name bands, and therefore people will spend their money in Salt Lake City or Boise instead....
