This place can be a bit hard to find for those who are not familiar with the area, but it is truly a gem, and one that is a must see for those who are fans of Abraham Lincoln. The monument is to those who died during the Blackhawk war, and is an excellent tribute high on the ridge over which you can see much of the valley below, almost undisturbed by time. Abraham Lincoln actually came to the spot during military service and helped to bury the dead after the battle, so it is one of those places where you can walk in the footsteps of Lincoln. It is a peaceful, tranquil spot, and a good final resting place for those soldiers who died during that terrible war. My Grandfather worked tirelessly in the 80's to have this location marked as a national historic monument along with the tree grove across the street (Kellog's Grove) where the battle took place. There was a road in the trees that was used to bring ore out to Galina. The battle took place along the road. I am saddened that our family is no longer located in the area as there has been a Virtue located here since the very early 1800's.
