Devils Kitchen Lake — Attraction in Illinois

Had a wonderful kayak outing today on Devil's Kitchen Lake in the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in Southern Illinois. Teamed up with several other folks who love the outdoors.

The weather, other than the heat, was perfect! And the water was nearly like glass. Which did help some with spotting some of the submerged stumps. Though we still managed to bump our fair share, one of us got wedged on one.

We headed to the bay that led to Panther's Den in Shawnee National Forest. As we made our way further in, we met some others coming out. They were wrapping up an overnight trip there. That is an outing idea I been wanting to do. There and other places too.

After taking a break, we started heading out. Another couple kayaking that wasn't with our group headed further in. They may have been intrigued about the Den after hearing us talk about it. All in all, we paddled 5-miles total in under 3-hours at a...

Stellar place for a spontaneous hike! ..you can spend an hour or a whole day here if you like..water ways and rock formations are teeming with local Flora and fauna...its an easy trails for beginners or folks who are more interested in taking photos and enjoying a stroll...
