Herrick Lake is an enjoyable place to visit and take pictures, overall, minus some of the characters who like to visit too. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I just love the grounds and location. Sometimes I don't always feel safe due to some of the bizarre visitors who appear aimless during the week, but overall it's safe. I have noticed some men pull up in their cars, park and just stare. I noticed one guy was staring incessantly at another young women and I went up to her and warned her, because it actually creeped me out. The weekends especially attract many different cultures/families, but everyone seems to want get along with each other with the goal to enjoy their surroundings, which is great. There were a group families cooking chicken on their grill and actually offered me and my sister the food they just cooked, after we complimented the smell. Read moreGorgeous! A hidden treasure with the Danada Forest Preserve. Herrick is surrounded by gravel trails good for biking, walking, running, or watching the horses trot by. A breath taking site with canoes, and other boats for rent on a moderate size pond teaming with fish. Not sure if poles are for rent. Two shelters one with a vending machine, and a bathroom on site. I was able to catch a snap shot of a stork relaxing amongst the other wildlife. Abundant parking, usually all but empty except on holidays. A perfect retreat, and place to rest or ride.
