Herrick Forest Preserve is an incredible gem for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike! The trails are relatively flat, well-maintained, and mostly gravel or crushed limestone, making them accessible for all skill levels. There are loop trails that range in distance, offering both short walks and longer hikes. Offer a perfect mix of scenic woodlands, open meadows, and serene lakeside views. Whether you’re hiking, biking, or just looking for a peaceful place to walk, the variety of paths keeps things interesting. The picnic areas are clean and spacious, making it great for families or a day out with friends. It’s a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle, with ample parking and well-kept facilities. I always leave feeling refreshed and connected to nature. Highly recommend for anyone in the area!

Gorgeous! A hidden treasure with the Danada Forest Preserve. Herrick is surrounded by gravel trails good for biking, walking, running, or watching the horses trot by. A breath taking site with canoes, and other boats for rent on a moderate size pond teaming with fish. Not sure if poles are for rent. Two shelters one with a vending machine, and a bathroom on site. I was able to catch a snap shot of a stork relaxing amongst the other wildlife. Abundant parking, usually all but empty except on holidays. A perfect retreat, and place to rest or ride. If you're lucky you might get to see some of the horses from Danada Equestrian Center ride through. You can also purchase a horse back ride there.

Great place to enjoy a lake with affordable rentals for kayaks near Naperville with multiple areas for larger groups of 10-20 you don’t need to reserve at a pavilion (mulch areas under the trees) … and for any age bike trails for short and longer loops. When our kids were 5-10 years old we found Herrick lake to be really enjoyable. We just discovered (after 20 years in the area) Herrick trails are connected to Danada (horses year round to see) to the East by bike or walking, and two more forest preserves to the West, 20 minutes away by bike. What a great discovery!

Just had a group of 40 enjoy a socially distanced day retreat at the East Picnic Shelter here. The Forest Preserve staff made sure the space was picked up, helped us move tables around, showed us the switch for the lights, and gave us extra garbage bags which was really helpful. The space can fit 100 during normal times and 50 during COVID times. It was perfect for our group to have a lot of space. It's also right next to a big grassy area and extra picnic tables outside of the shelter. I would highly recommend anyone reserve this space for a larger group gathering.

Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Well kept trails, beautiful look out points, great fishing spots. Plenty of picnic tables and seating area. Easy to get around and trails arent very long. We often go here for picnics and a quick walk. They offer boating and canoes. When we recently went, they had a kind helper walking around letting everyone know not to touch the water due to a toxic algae in there. Which happens. Plenty of wildlife and everyone that goes respects the wildlife, the land, and you never see litter. Great quick walking area.

We love coming here for a long walk. Lot of foliage and the trails are wide, clean and well maintained. We also bike here sometimes. There are many parking spaces available in this park and it’s free. Bathrooms are available. This forest preserve is also connected to two other preserves namely Danada forest preserve and Blackwell forest preserve. Those interested in fishing can also come here as there are many fishing spots around the lake. Overall, always have a good time when we come here.
