A small prairie. There's one trail that leads to the DesPlaines River. One could almost believe they're in actual wilderness if it wasn't for the constant truck and car noise from the roads around the place, and what sounded like constant gunshots in the distance during my visit. There's also an old bridge that has been closed with ugly signs. The hike is a short, and sweet one.

Beautiful place that most people don't seem to know about. You will definitely need to be prepared to hike through some heavy vegetation to get down to the river and to get to good photo spots. The abandoned bridge is pretty cool, but stay off. Be careful with your footing by the river. It is rocky and the vegetation can make it hard to see what you are actually stepping on.

Wanted to go further off the path but it was starting to get late. No parking lot that I saw but was a neat little find. Plenty of plants, water, and an interesting closed bridge. Shall definitely check the place out again and see what more there is to explore!

In the spring/summer months, there's not a lot of obvious exploring to do. The plants and tall grass is grown thick and tall. I haven't explored during the winter/fall months, however. Regardless, it's a beautiful location with one dead-end road that serves as the main access.

I have wanted to explore this place for a long time and only got to spend a short while here when I visited. I photographed a local band for promotional photos here and they turned out great! The field provided the perfect backdrop . The fact few cars drive down the main road through the preserve also let me take some shots of the band on the road safely, which also...

Wanted to see what was so exciting about this location. Have always seen many cars parked along the road and no people. So was thinking that they hike off to a hidden treasure, like the old abandoned Bridge over the Des Plains River leading to the I&M canal. Well the bridge is securly closed to foot traffic and no visually eye catching trails leading out onto the prairie and only one trail leading south with no apparent destination. So long story short...what's so appealing about this place. I don't know. Maybe the hikers like the...
