Wide open prairie on big trails. I enjoyed it overall. There were some good views on the slopes down to the Kankakee River and a nice little stream meanding through the park. Given the trails are quite wide, they lack a little character and the feeling of remoteness that make it a 5 star experience. Since the trails are exposed with no shade, midday in the summer may not be the best time to visit. Similarly, today was a bit tough in the driving rain and strong wind.

Low key place for a walk/hike. From here you can walk to see the bison, the iron bridge trail, the bunker trail where you can get inside a bunker used when Midewin was the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, or go anywhere else in Midewin. There’s usually a few people out and about but be prepared to enjoy the area by yourself.

Great place to hike or bike. Usually not crowded. Loved seeing the Buffalo tho they can be hard to find in my experience.

One of my favorite places. It's absolutely huge, which you don't really realize until you're there. A great variety of hikes. The Bison are awesome when they're near the paths. The bugs are atrocious in the warm and wet, so dress for protection. Hiking is great at all times of the year.

When it's open, the visitor's center is fantastic, too. It's a must see place if you are anywhere near Chicago and want a unique wildlife experience. We are going to drive an hour to get there today - 4th time this year! Love it! Props to the USDA for providing this super cool place for...

Free.... Peaceful trails. None too strenuous. Parts of our trial had signs knocked off in the tall grass. If you want to get outside, it's a nice area. Wheelchair and disability scooter accessible. Some of the trail is now grass but it is mowed. Was a little tiring to push the wheelchair. Didn't see the bison when we were there. Have a nice spot with bleachers and binoculars on a post to see them. It was set so people in wheelchair could roll right up to it and use it sitting down. Able to go inside the...
