As a recreation area, is great and I would have totally played frisbee golf on their amazingly well-maintained grounds.

There are lots of great spots to sit and look at the river when relaxing. Benches, picnic tables, and covered shelters.

As for the mounds... The problem with this park(in my eyes) is that the park designers placed a roadway through the mounds. While this does let somebody do a drive-by viewing, it’s not nearly as scenic and isolated as other parks. (Albany Mounds is a phenomenal example of respecting the terrain and sanctity.) The roadway is built on top of the mound complex and the small mounds are literally next to the parking lot. The smaller mounds are next to grills and play areas. They are unlabeled and probably unnoticed as anything more than a hump of dirt by most visitors. It’s not a great demonstration of honoring ancient ruins.

All and all... Great park. I would love to see them pull back from the mounds so people can understand what they...

Grew up in Sterling area so this park was a big deal in lives of people living there. There are walking trails, picnic shelters, fishing docks, Indian burial mounds and a disc golf course. It was a place for family picnics, cross country races, after hours drinking, baseball games, kite flying, etc. There is a paved trail that runs from Hoover Park on the east side toward downtown Sterling where it intersects with a walking bridge that crosses the Rock River where it connects to Hennepin Canal in Rick Falls. Fantasy author Terry Brooks has even included it in his book Running...

At least for today 5/05/19 there was a broken top of a ceramic toilet. In the pavilion when I visited. It was all in pieces inside the pavilion. So I am assuming that's why the Restroom was locked. I wish if they knew that happen they could have picked up the broken pieces so no one would get hurt. But I'm not sure if they knew. I'm happy we have this park in our area just want it to be attended when not safe. I am sorry I do not know how to report it. If anyone does please do. Very nice...

Beautiful hidden park off the main drag, right on the river with bluff views and old hills that contain Native burials. Theres a site that has a plaque about the burial site and the history. A road leads down to the river path, flanking the Rock. There's a golf course that's fairly small, yet it's rustic. Charming and older. It has a few enormous ancient trees.

Sterling park district is top notch for groundskeeping and other maintenance. Always Helpful. The park is beautiful, fishing, baseball, disc golf, hiking, running, bicycling, trails, restrooms, water, playgrounds, woods, open areas, shelters, parking and so on.
