Wonderful hike with spectacular views at the top. Gradient is mild. Pay close attention for the sign on the TRT to split off up to Picnic Rock. I hiked this trail on January 14, and there is snow the length of the trail but it is hard packed and most of trail surface is icy, so micro spikes were a huge help. You can go all the way up with just hiking boots and trekking poles if you hike with care. I saw recent bear prints near picnic rocks so always stay aware of your surroundings...

Short little uphill hike, ~1.6 miles, will take you up to Picnic Rock, which is a collection of interesting rock formations and a killer view. Then we went up, up, up and enjoyed a stunning view of Lake Tahoe at Picnic Rock. The elevation made it a real work out but really good hike. There were quite a few people walking dogs.
