Wonderful hike with spectacular views at the top. Gradient is mild. Pay close attention for the sign on the TRT to split off up to Picnic Rock. I hiked this trail on January 14, and there is snow the length of the trail but it is hard packed and most of trail surface is icy, so micro spikes were a huge help. You can go all the way up with just hiking boots and trekking poles if you hike with care. I saw recent bear prints near picnic rocks so always stay aware of your surroundings while hiking.

Park at the Tahoe rim trail head and take the trail towards the view. Short little uphill hike, ~1.6 miles, will take you up to Picnic Rock, which is a collection of interesting rock formations and a killer view. This is not too challenging, young kids should be able to handle it. The view at the top is definitely worth it. One of the best I’ve seen in Tahoe. Just watch out for those chipmunks! They will get close and try to steal your food.

Breathtaking views at picnic Rock. Bring plenty of water and some snacks as you'll spend a couple of hours here. (About 3 miles round trip) The parking is free just across the street. Very clean, well kept trail so let's keep it that way 😊 ..have fun and enjoy ... definitely dog and kid friendly trail.

We parked on the side of road. It wasn't clear to that Picnic Rock was UP the hill, so we did a mile walk down the hill first. Then we went up, up, up and enjoyed a stunning view of Lake Tahoe at Picnic Rock. The elevation made it a real work out but really good hike. There were quite a few people walking dogs. Grab some water and a snack to soak in the beauty....
