Serenity Sands — Attraction in Independence

Came today for the first time this year. The place is great and the staff is nice! What isn’t nice is trying to cook food by the river and having kids and adults riding their forewheelers at full speed kicking up dirt and sand into our food none stop. We showed our concern to the people doing it and they decided to chose to keeping going back and forth in front of us for the 2.5 hours we visited and there was plenty of room behind our spot they could have gone. At one point 2 men flipped theirs over and a kid almost ran into our car and cooler! How much trash and glass bottles people were throwing into the water was insane. One man was picking up one of his busted glass bottles that was right on the shoreline. I had shoes on that I could wear into the water but I saw many kids and adults that didn’t, it is a bad accident waiting to happen.There was a staff member that went up to the group beside us and could see that they were putting their garbage in the river and picked it up for them while they sat in the river and watched her do it. We were not the only people who experienced this. I hope that they change what’s going on because the “family friendly” 4.5 stars I saw in the reviews must not be in...

Was looking for a new campground not too far of a drive and this place popped up again.

We stayed a while back and I can definitely confirm the experiences of those left poor reviews. So much trash just being tossed into the river. I was pretty ridiculous to see. Then the incredibly loud music all night long, till 4-5am. I’m talking like someone brought a commercial amp/speaker setup and generator and blared insanely loud music all night long. I got up to use the one (terrible) restroom and it was just a couple of very drunk guys sitting by the speaker.

The right thing to do would’ve been to warn people that it was possible insanely loud music would be allowed all night long and the campground owners would do nothing at all about it.

But really the most shocking of all was the littering that was allowed to take place directly into the river. If you’re going to make it your business to make money off the river, don’t you feel at least a little obliged to be somewhat of a steward of it?

Doesn’t anyone down river ever complain? Doesn’t any of the local authority or government care at all to try and put a stop to this? The reason you have a campground is because of the...

Called ahead of time twice to make sure we had all the information needed before our trip. All day people were getting their cars stuck in the sand, some were getting stuck as a result of their own ignorance, but the place needs to be roped off or have signs, because if you are not told where to go from the people who run it, you run the risk of going into an area and not being able to get back out. They told us to find someone there to help us out and had a really nasty attitude. If they won’t make a parking lot, they at least need to rope off areas or have signs so people don’t get stuck and have to worry about how to get pulled out. Especially if people are from out of town and don’t have help they can call. We will never come back here again. As far as the place, the river is nice. People ruin it as always, but the tables are FARRRRRRR from the water. So don’t expect to be sitting on the shade while swimming. You have to pick a spot can’t have both. Have to have water shoes to walk on the rocks and sand, it’s a very far walk to the water. And I suggest to pack light for this reason. It’s not easy to walk on the sand especially when it’s...
