They locked me out and denied me entrance because they were ready to go before store closing hours.
Today I received TERRIBLE customer service. I am here Indiana for work and on my way home I wanted to see what the State is known for. I enter in with 40 minutes to spare to look around. I didn't see a lot of RVs at first so I was hesitant to go in when I first arrived and an friend talked me into just going in to see. So I go in and ask the receptionist if there's actual RVs. She replied , yes. I asked her what time it was she told me I would have 40 minutes to look around. It normally takes about two hours. I told her oh no problem, I'm from Michigan I will be fast and look around. I need to grab my phone that's on the charger because my wallet is on it. Not once did she mention that they were going to close early. My phone was only at 1% and it was charging slowly. By the time I was at 2%, which is just enough charge for the wallet, I had 30 minutes to look around. So I thought. I went and pulled on the doors and they locked me out. I called to check on the reason they locked the doors early even though the receptionist knew I was coming back in and never mentioned I couldn't look around. Some guy who said he goes by the name Chuck, said that he saw me in my car and the tour normally takes two hours. I'm like excuse me, what tour? No one ever mentioned I was required to take a tour. I'm from Detroit MI where all our museums are self explanatory and you have to pay more if you want special attention and have a guide show you around. I told them that is absolutely terrible customer service and yours hours are posted. He said they decided to close early even though they knew I was coming in and he could visibly see me in the parking lot.
I explained to him AGAIN that you are required to stay open until your closing time and your receptionist should have stated that I could no longer look around instead of allowing me to grab my phone and then immediately locking the doors 5 -10 minutes later. Chuck says " well I can't open the doors and turn on the lights for one person and you should have paid" .
Just absolutely rude. Extreme lack of customer service skills. He tells me I can just come back another day. I told him just as I told his receptionist, I am from Michigan. He then says " I travel to Michigan everyday". I said excuse me, sir? So just because you travel to Michigan you expect me to drive 3hrs to come back here because of your lack of professionalism and communication?!
The fact the people even feel empowered to argue with customers is just beyond me. Good Customer Service is definitely not a skill set here. At least...
Read moreWe were traveling thru the area and had this on our sightseeing list. We are full time rv travelers. We have seen ALOT of museums. Honestly, we were a bit underwhelmed with the museum - especially for the cost of $20 a person (we found a reseller deal online for $15). They had some cool older items, but not to the magnitude you would expect for the name & cost. Should be more in the line of $8-$10 a person relative to what was there and the quality & quantity opinion. A lot of places seem to raise the price to offset expenses when it would make more traffic if they lowered the price and more people could afford.
Perk: It was really great that they offer dry camping for free and full hookups for $40. Visited on a Sunday and it was very quiet. Just some noise from highway. Nice they were open every day. Very good layout for RV parking and great to have an option so close to the museum. Dump stations on site. This was all awesome!
Peeve: We saw two separate sets of guests INSIDE walking around the museum with dogs - really LARGE dogs. Very surprised they allow this. Wouldn’t think they’d want them around the displays. The dogs didn’t seem well behaved and were approaching us & other visitors and trying to investigate the campers. Not ideal for us honestly. Have never seen dogs at any other inside attraction, especially a museum with vintage items. I understand accommodating pet owners but this seemed a bit much especially given they likely had an RV they arrived in they could have stayed in.
Overall, definitely worth a stop if camping is of interest to you! Some cool...
Read moreBecame a Life Member many years ago, just to help them retire the mortgage. Wanted it to always be there in case we could visit. Arrived the night before and enjoyed the Free RV parking area. Thought we would just be there a couple of hours, so sauntered in about 11:00.
As Life Members we could have gotten in for free, but the senior and military discounts made it so reasonable, that we chose to pay before telling the lady that we were Life Members. Every business needs to pay bills.
The museum was so much fun, that we spent hours inspecting rigs recalled from our childhood, ones we had owned before we met, the one I owned when we first married (and which he promptly turned into a storage unit), historic and ground breaking campers, and some futuristic one-offs that I recalled seeing in RV magazines over the years.
Even ran into an old friend I worked with in CA over 20 years ago!
We took a break to have lunch and walk the dogs, then went back and stayed until closing. Which led to us staying a second night in the RV parking area.
I highly recommend this museum to anyone who even remotely enjoys camping, Motorhome living, or any form of RV life.
There is so much to see and do in this area, that I would recommend staying several days, or even a week. The quilt garden trail, Amish farms, Brewing companies, river walk, bicycle trail, canoeing, wine...
