Buyer Beware!!!!!! Passing through on our way home to Texas from Michigan, we decided to stop again at Satek Winery. This was our second visit in 3 years. Here is where you should "BEWARE". We purchased 12 bottles of wine to take home and share with our friends at home. The 12 bottles were put upside down in the box and it was closed, unaware to us. We put the case of wine in our camper next to another case of wine which we purchased in Michigan. Hours down the road we discovered that one of the upside down bottles had broken and covered our camper floor. We called Satek and asked why they put them upside down, because that is why the bottle broke. We were told that they do that so the cork will not dry out and it is our responsibility to transport the wine. I say shame on you for putting them upside down! We have bought many cases of wine through our travels and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened! I believe you set us up to fail and would not own up to it. During my next trip to Michigan I believe an other winery would be a better choice. Update: I called a second time to explain why I posted this review. I talked with Shawn, the head winemaker, for several minutes discussing our recent experience. He was very apologetic and wanted our experience to be nothing less than perfect.I am very satisfied with Shawn and his handling with our situation and will continue to make this our stopping place while traveling to and...
Read moreWell... can’t say that the wine wasn’t great because it was. There were several choices that there really wasn’t any reason why someone couldn’t find SOMETHING they liked. However, I felt as if wine was being kind of “tossed” at us - almost like a race. Not much explanation given for the wine sample provided. It was introduced to us - like hey pick 8 of them on the list and we will just go boom boom boom. I think the weirdest part was... when we walked in - it looked kinda like an office. We had explained that we never been there before and they just set menus out. When I asked for a chair, they said, “we don’t have any here really”. No barstools. Nothing. I felt a little obligated to “get in, taste my 8 and get out”. My favorite wineries here in Michigan have places to sit - pairings - educated hosts and very accommodating and social environments. Didn’t get that vibe here. Did I buy a bottle of blackberry wine? Yes. Would I recommend that my friends or family visit this? Probably not. Would I go again? I don’t...
Read moreSatek Winery was the first winery established in NE Indiana, over a dozen years ago. Now in the region there are about half a dozen wineries. I don't know much about wine, but the people working in the Satek tasting room (free tastings!) are friendly and knowledgeable about wine, which helps somebody like me. I do know Satek Winery has won many medals through the years for excellence of the wines they craft. It makes me think that similarly, while there are many brands of corn flakes, Kellogg's Corn Flakes says it's "the first and the best!" Satek Winery might be justified if they made...
