There are quite a few areas to this park that make it a great place for a quick hike, playground visit, nature walk, or a half day adventure.
Playground The playground offers multiple (3+) areas that cater from toddlers of walking age to big kids/adolescents. There is a parking lot right by the playground that makes iy easily accessible. Small kids/toddlers: there is an area that is nearly surrounded by fencing to keep the traffic in/out low, meaning it was mostly kids under 3 in the area. Bigger kids: there were two playground areas that littler kids could still enjoy but featured bigger climbs and a variety of slide sizes. They also had some of the tallest slides I've ever seen at a park in the bigger area!
Pros of the playground area: Plenty of shade including covered areas to sit Spread out to fit lots of kids Bathrooms were very easily accessible Swing area separate (minimize kids running behind/in front of swings)
The website offers a map to view the walking trails. They were not the most clearly marked in person but using the online map was helpful and we got right where we wanted to go. A few trails lead to shallow parts of the white river and have some fun areas to explore. Not stroller friendly- there are stairs! My 1.5 year old toddler easily traversed the trails with a hand to hold but next time we won't try to bring the stroller down! There are many uneven stone steps and roots, they are not overly difficult but not for those who are unstable. Overall, getting to the waters edge is less than a 10 minute walk.
Nature center Highly recommend a stop in here. There is a parking lot in front of the nature center for easy access that is also wheelchair accessible. There is an information desk on the front. The kids area is truly great and offers: -water ("river") play table -climbing tunnel -upstairs tree house -bee colony -other play -a few live animals (turtles, snakes) The bird viewing area was serene and lovely. There are multiple couches to bird watch in front of big windows along with some coloring pages and pencils. I was amazed at how many different species of birds we saw sitting there.
Other areas at this site include a rock garden, nature walk outside of the nature center and the ruins. Everyone in our group from toddler to adolescent to adult to grandparents were really impressed...
Β Β Β Read moreWhat an amazing day at Holliday Park! I've been here a couple of times. I've napped on blankets w my girlfriend and looked a bird that could actually have been two different birds. I don't know, it flew into trees and out of them, but never did I see two at the same time. So I'm gonna say it was 1 bird. But man, it was a really decent bird. It was orange or blue or something. Maybe yellow. We found a rope swing today. When you swung on it, it would make that typical rope pulling noise, "plung plung plung". No no, more like, "blank blank blunk". Hold on, that's not it either. Maybe like, "ruaaaw ruaaaw ruaaew"? Like an old wood and rope bridge sound effect from Indiana Jones, when he almost drops those glowing rocks and the bad guys are like, "give us the rocks, man". It sounded like that. So then we left that swing, but we did come back to it, and I rode on it. Made the same sound as it did a few years before, so we appreciate the consistency. We spit off of the quiet outlook and read all the vulgar graffiti. Walked a trail pretended that zombies were after us. Got scared by a mountain lion, but it turned out to be a small Australian Shepard dog of some breed. We hid in a bunch and made zombie and weird animal noise, and jumped out and scared small children and decrepit senor citizens. Ran around screaming and pushing over people who were trying to do a meditation circle. Walked along the white river, and drank our selves silly from your flowing beauty. We saw a chipmunk. A little spider. Two spider webs. Two separate times found rolled up dirty diapers wedged into tree bows. They have really cool uneven steps and we had a blast not tripping and biffing it. So many people and so many dogs. Children were everywhere screaming and shouting bloody murder. There was a yoga group, doing yoga, and looking healthy. My kid almost hit a lady w a stick by accident, had to apologize to her, and yelled at my kid for embarrassing me. We had the best time ever at Holliday Park. I want to live there when I'm...
Β Β Β Read moreI love coming to this park because it's a great place for family to get together and spend time together in nature and have fun at the same time. There are a lot of trails to walk some trails are a little more difficult than others but some are really smooth. There is very nice playgrounds here for children of all ages. They have a playground for your smaller children and they have a playground for your medium sized Toddlers and they have a playground for the bigger kids. There's also a very nice Nature Center here and my favorite part of the Nature Center is sitting in the bird watching room where you can sit on comfortable couches in air conditioning with speakers on the walls that play sounds of birds which is also very relaxing and very large Windows to view the birds feeding at the bird feeders and the Chipmunks running around on the ground. There's also a really nice area with a ground fountain that the kids can walk around in water is not deep at all doesn't even go over your feet and water that Cascades off of what looks like a marble bench type thing but not advise that you sit on it it is very slippery. This park is nice any...
