A True Gem of the Upper Peninsula – West Shore Fishing Museum
If you're ever near the Menominee shoreline, do yourself a favor and visit the West Shore Fishing Museum. It’s not just a museum — it’s a living tribute to Great Lakes fishing heritage, built and preserved by people who truly care about the story they’re telling.
From the moment we arrived, the volunteers made the experience unforgettable. Each one of them took the time to greet every guest, share meaningful stories, and personally thank us for visiting. Their passion for the museum’s mission is genuine and contagious.
The displays are authentic and thoughtfully arranged — from commercial gill net boats like the beautifully restored Kate A., to vintage tools, net reels, and real stories of the fishermen who once worked this coast. You can feel the pride in every corner.
It’s rare to find a place where local history, craftsmanship, and community come together so powerfully. Whether you’re a local, a history lover, or just passing through, the West Shore Fishing Museum is absolutely worth your time.
Thank you to all the volunteers who make this place so special — you’re keeping a...
