It's a large park with loads of trees, walking paths, playground areas, sport fields, restrooms, and tables. They have two swimming pools and a very modest area for skaters to practice in. Parking is free, it's a pet friendly park, and a great place for brisk walking or jogging (especially in the morning when the brisk air hits you square on the face).
The last time I went there though, I didn't even realize that I witnessed a mugging until the old man approached me for help. They were too far away from me for me to hear what they were saying and, even though they never physically touched him, the two guys kept dogging the old man in a strong-arm sort of fashion. I didn't think anything wrong was happening because there was a group of high-school aged kids standing a few feet away and they seemed unbothered by whatever was happening next to them. The old man walks about 100-200 feet towards me to tell me what happened (I think my scrubs caught his attention). The two guys ran off with his cellphone but I still called the police. The police arrived, a report was filed, and I suppose that was the end of it.
It's a nice place for a quiet walk but I generally always keep a wary eye out for...
Read moreNice size park. There are workout stations, a large and then smaller picnic areas. The skate park is on the northern Western side of the park with two baseball fields and the recently renovated Champion's Field that is used for soccer and football. The field is closed off for food, but there seems to be vendors outside the park on busier days. Make sure to review the city website for league sign ups, play performances, public events for the elderly and reserving picnic areas for larger crowds. Right now is soccer, tennis, and track. There are also multiple playground and a swimming pool area. The amphitheatre is good for getting a good step exercise as well when there are no performances. If you have younger children with you, make sure you escort them to the restrooms. The park is doing its best to keep the amenities clean and stocked, but due to it being a public park, not everyone always does their part to assist maintenance in upholding that...
Read moreEdward Vincent is not the prettiest park nor the most accessible but when you walk through the park and observe the people who live around here, you'll feel it emanating from them -- their love of this park. as if it too were a close friend or relative. They take care of this park, look after it, and give back to it in different ways because the park --in ways big and small, and often in ways our eyes can't see -- always has something to give them.
Come visit and explore. And just open yourself to the energy of the park. Then you'll feel it. In the people and the trees and the squirrels and the grass and the train running beside the park, and the skateboards grating through the asphalt, and the laughter from the basketball court, and the scent of barbecue wafting from the picnic area, and the wind that rustles your...
