Really a great addition to the area. The bridge has detailed posters about the local conservation efforts of eagles and other birds of prey. The bridge is pedestrian only and extends half way out into the Des Moines River. If you stay at the Corps of Engineers campground it is on the walking/ bike trail.

Great place for a fall walk in the woods, along the Des Moines River south of Lake Red Rock Dam and Reservoir and eagle watching. Flat, paved trails good for walking, jogging, cycling. Easy for strollers and kids.

Horns Ferry Bridge is a great place to spend an afternoon. It overlooks a pretty populated nesting site for Bald Eagles on the Des Moines River and is located next to Howell Station Campground. There are walking/hiking trails and a playground for children nearby. We watched the Eagles and pelicans in the morning and had a picnic lunch and fished in the afternoon. ...

This is a great place for bird watching. The woodland across the river from the bridge (west river bank) is the Gladys Black Bald Eagle Refuge. According to the signage it is "Iowa's most historic and well-known interior wintering site for bald eagles."

Horn's Ferry Bridge is accessible from Volksweg Trail or the nearby...
