The "new" pool is awful and the staff is rude and resiculious. My daughter who is 8 and on a competitive swim team tried to take the swim fest but was too late by about 30 seconds so they made her wait 30 minutes till the next time to test. I had never heard of such a thing. So when it came to test she failed it...apparently my daughter who competes in swimming and can swim a cool 100 free back or breast wasn't a strong enough swimmer. I call BS, the life guard has a serious power struggle and failed all of the younger kids who didn't have parents standing beside them...mind you these were all kids on the same swim team. Their "safety rules" are out of hand, how about you let the kids have fun and make the life guards do their jobs instead of standing around or sitting in the life guard stands talking to their friends instead of watching the pool. We seriously watched one life guard sit and talk with his friends head turned away from the pool in the seated lifeguard stand for 20 minutes.
We won't ever go back and I plan on talking with the swim team board about never having the banquet there again. Awful experience, awful staff, and awful pool surrounding. Muscatine or Rock Island have better...
Read moreThis visit was about checking the park out for future camping site. Wow is all I can say. One of the nicest parks I've been too but then my world is pretty small lol.
Update..................
Finally made it back for camping. Spent 4 days and enjoyed what this park had to offer. We had some excitement on the second evening. Tornado touched down just North of the park. 80 mph gusts in the park. Not only is this one of the nicest state parks I've been too, the bad weather showed me the staff in action. I've been camping during bad weather before, but the staff at this park knocked my socks off with their quick reactions and professionalism. They went above and beyond to get us safe and keep us in loop as to what was going on, hats off to staff! I can't say enough good about this park. 1000+ acres of park, multiple campgrounds ranging from full hookup sites to full on primitive. Fish were even biting :). Large swimming pool with water slides. Don't pass this place up if looking for a nice park to spend the weekend in. For the bird watchers, this park is the nesting area of the rare Led Zep Ramble On. I could ramble on some more but I think you...
Read moreHuge place designed more for employees to make $$ than for guests. At around 7:15 AM, I was peacefully sleeping in my “Primitive” campground area, when I heard what sounded like military tanks. Terrified, I awoke and listened, thinking perhaps the bombs had fallen. It continued, and got louder and louder. I unzipped my tent and looked out. Two of the HUGEST lawnmowers I’ve ever seen IN MY LIFE were beating down on my campground area.
This place is MANICURED within an inch of its life. The officious campground hosts walked over from a football field’s distance to tell me that my 6 month old puppy need to be tethered to her leash, although we were the only ones in the entire campground, which is the size of four football fields.
The immaculate bathrooms had blowing hand dryers that will cause hearing loss—and if you think I’m kidding, look it up. Little kids DO lose hearing from the normal kind, and these aren’t normal.
Everything here is LOUD and SPIT-POLISHED, which SEEMS great at first, but it’s accomplished in brutal fashion, and trust me, no one cares. It’s MAN against NATURE. Well, we already know who...
